Tips & Tricks For Louder Turbo Noise/Dump Noise?
« on: August 21, 2014, 08:49:11 pm »
Just replaced my standard air filter for the BMC filter and there's a definite increase in turbo noise - (wastegate flutter & dump sound) but still I crave MORE!

Any idea's guys?

Thanks, Olly.

    I wish.  :banghead:

I'm thinking about eventually doing airbox mods to increase airflow but until then I need other ideas/mods/tweaks to help me on my way to VOLUME!

Yeah I'm going to look into that one, not sure whether to do holes or just cut out a section with a hot screwdriver (joking... - or maybe not joking).  :thumb:

But still, surely there's knowledgeable people out there doing weird and wonderful things to their air boxes to achieve what I'm after, they just need to find this thread!

I've just replaced my filthy standard paper filter with a new BMC one and the difference is amazing! The car sounds loads better & pulls a lot stronger! I know people will dismiss these claims but my A500 is definitely improved.

I noticed this too, sounds a lot better indeed, and maybe a slight placebo effect of more throttle response but that will be seen to be nonsense I'm sure :)

I'd agree though, the thinner the air filter the less dampening inside te air box to reduce sound so it would make sense considering the BMC's are almost half the thickness of the standard paper filter. Turbo flutter and dump has definately increased since replacing the filter, but still I want to seek ways to make it more prominent!

    Olly.

I run a BMC filter on a drilled Air Box for my AGP!! You get a great induction noise plus i think it has helped the throttle response a tad :)

Will be adding a direct cold air feed from the bottom grill area into the air box via induction pipe and a ram air piece on the inlet. Will help get more air intake as there is not much of an intake area on the AGP's

I will try and upload a vid to show you guys the sound she makes with this mod ;)

Hi Mate, I'd love to see some pics of your drill-modded air box as I'm considering doing this too! That's exactly the results I'm looking for!

I've also thought about the cold air feed too but wasn't sure about the best position/best materials to use to achieve this, could you shed some light on this? That video would be really helpful! especially if you could show the mods etc in the video too, Thanks in advance if you could do this for me and for others who're interested.  :thumb:

I have considered this but because of my current insurance/warranty I'm putting it off for a while :)

There is a post on here on how to drill holes in your air box, i just followed that and used a 10mm drill bit! might re-drill them to 12mm :)

Regarding the extra air feed, buy some induction pipe and an aluminium ram air fixture of ebay and just fabricate to fit. Make a hole the diameter of the pipe into the existing air feed or air box and use black silicon to seal around the joints.

I will get a video up for you when i am back from Germany, flying out tomorrow :)
I do have a blow off BMC filter too, so you will here the air Venting on top of the induction noise :)

    Hope this helps

I think I've seen that thread before actually, did you have to reset your ECU after these mods?

Okay great info thanks! not sure exactly what I'd be looking for though for the cold air feed, maybe you could point me in the right direction in terms of the correct length/URL's of the right products? If you wouldn't mind.  :thumb:

Also how is the BMC blow off fitted/where can I get one from?! that's exactly what I'd like to get my hands on, is it instead of the original recirc-valve? or in addition to?

    Cheers mate!
