Just wondering from anyone with more mechanical/pressure knowledge than me if a strong/high quality zip tie would be sufficient for replacing the hose clamp which currently exists as standard on the air filter hose (hose from the turbo to the air box) as I don't want to fork out £12.00 for 30m of hose clamp to make myself one...
Seems like overkill.

So long story short - should I be okay to use zip-ties instead of an expensive metal hose clamp considering it's plastic-on-plastic contact anyway?

Thanks, Olly.

Surely a Jubilee clip would do the trick and be a darned site cheaper? :)

That's what I was thinking but from what I can tell from my local motor store and Halfords is they don't sell then large enough so I'd have to buy a 'make one yourself' kit.

That's when I was lead I to thinking about zip ties, not sure if they'd be a strong enough seal though that's all, what do you reckon mate?

I know you don't want to pay out £12 for a hose clamp, a tie wrap might do the job, but I think it would look as if were not bothered about the car.

    Martin, good point mate.

Only thing is the £12 spent on that clamp would be spent on fuel otherwise as I'm virtually skint at the moment, don't start work Untill September 1st, running on savings so every penny counts  :thumb:

But I agree a hose clamp would be a better option, might just have to make an early investment for when the filter needs a clean.

whats wrong with the clip that's on it?

a lot of people seem to mistake clic clips for one-use clips and think they need to replace them :thumb:

Sorry Ollie I thought I had replied to this in a previous thread but dodgy WiFi must have dropped out. The hose clamps are reusable and not a problem.  I just use woodworking pliers or end cuts on the ear of the clamp to release it and put it back on. I have done it a few times with no problems and the original clips look so much better. TBH they are a bit of a slack fit but I dont think it is too critical on that side of the turbo.

In response to the previous comment and also this one:

I had mistaken the clip for a potential 'one-use' clip if I was to remove it incorrectly but from what Lethal has said, it seems as though it's a re-usable clip if removed in the right way :thumb:

Lethal, no worries! Glad you checked again to see if you'd replied  :). Glad that you reassured me before going at it with the wrong tool/in the wrong manner! hopefully I won't have any issues when i come to replace the existing panel filter with the BMC one.

    Thanks again, Olly.
