2yr 18k service costs and what oil
« on: May 12, 2013, 11:21:33 am »
Hi Everyone

I'm sure the answer is on here somewhere but its a lazy Sunday today so thought I'd ask instead of searching lol.

Service due in early June (unfortunatley in Wessex Garage Bristol) god, I hope they've got their act together now!!!.

Anyway how much is this service roughly?

and what oil does it need (I'm not at all mechanical hence a dumb question)

I've got a 2010 Esseeesse

Thanks very much for any advice / help

Cheers

Dean

The Oil you need to use is 5w / 30 (fully) & a 2nd service from a dealer (i've been told) is £400ish.

the terms 1st and 2nd service really don't mean much, the main service intervals are 18000 miles with oil and filter changes every 6000 on an esseesse. Some items are time related and the whole lot is affected by when the SS kit was fitted and the mileage and servicing done so far.

The only way to determine what you need and therefore the cost is to look at the history of the car and tailor the servicing schedule to your requirements, if you ask a dealer they won't do the legwork for you they will just come up with a safe (and expensive) option that covers everything you might need

Sit down with a coffee and study the service book, it will save you money :thumb:

If you want to look after the car's engine, change the oil every 6k miles and have a minor service once a year to replace the filters etc, you can ask the dealer for a free "visual check" if you want to have the suspension, tyres, brakes, etc checked. See what the handbook says for the mileage / year & get it looked at or replaced.

No, the oil is 5w/40 for an APE/APESS, Wessex Should know this but as they miss filled mine I wouldn't count on it, problem is the car comes up wrong on the computer, even prior to SS modification it came up as 170bhp Punto requiring 10w/50  ::)

Due my 36k in the next week or so, that should be fun, can they disable the service reminder, I will be out of warranty soon I don't really want to visit dealers after that, they are mostly expensive and useless.

What does the dealer do to the car for a 2yr 18k service to cost £400ish..?   I changed the oil today & used Mobile 1 5W/40

I'd planned to have mine serviced at an indy. Thought dealers had to honour the warranty provided genuine parts are used?

doesn't even have to be original parts, just original or equivalent quality. you won't find any cheap spark plugs though :thumbd:

Lucky one of my friends can get all the parts I need "trade" price, e.g. Mobile 1 5L 5W/40 £48.20 his price £28.20, The 1st service cost me £50 for new oil, oil & cabin filter. He stamps the service book so no problems there.
