Just had a text message from my local dealership. The official APE floormats have arrived in stock. I'm going to collect them on Saturday, so I'll let you know if they are worth the wait / money!!!  ;D

Right - what I'm about to say wont surprise many of you!! Firstly, the mats DO fit (in terms of the cut out shapes). All 4 have been shaped correctly. The quality of the pile is a step up from the AGP mats - thicker, deeper pile used here. The Abarth badges (which only feature on the front mats - the rear mats are plain black) are woven into the mat, rather than being plastic/rubber. The front passenger mat is shaped to expose the footplate. Now to the interesting part - the drivers mat: rather than use the two securing 'nipples' that already stick up from the floor (a hangover from the Fiat Punto Evo), Abarth decided to design their own securing devices within the mat (there is no velcro on the underside of these mats). Now, what are the odds on the holes in the news mats lining up with the 'nipples' in the floor? Yep.... ZERO!!! So to overcome this 'design quirk' they must have realised, that when the mat is flat on the floor, the 'nipples' are poking up into the underside of the mat, so they have manually cut out little holes in the underside of the new mat to house the 'nipples'!!! This might explain why the mats took so long to arrive!!! Personally I think it would be better to remove the old 'nipples' - maybe with a hacksaw or pliers. Incidentally, the fixings that come with the drivers mat need to be screwed into the floor carpet, then when the mat is laid on the floor, the fixings will poke through the holes and a half turn secures the mat in place. So, are they worth the money? Well, mine were negotiated into the price of the car, so it made sense for me to wait for the official ones, but if I were spending my own hard cash I would probably be seriously considering the Abarthisti ones (though Im not sure whether the same fixing issues exist with those too).  :-\

There are no fixing issues with the Abarthisti mats.
They have the correct fittings in the mats to clip into the nipples on the floor.

the dealership let me borrow some AGP ones when i picked the car up in March that had soft plastic coated badges, so i assumed that all AGP ones were like that. Didnt realise that there were different versions, though im not sure why i should feel surprised anymore by what Abarth does!!!  :o

John, that sounds far too sensible!! How come Abarthisti can get it right, yet Abarth keep getting it so wrong??!!!  ::)
