Title: Abarth Punto Scorpione
Post by: AlexK on November 21, 2011, 10:12:19 am
Adrenaline, the gusto of pitting oneself against any kind of challenge, the never-ending search for speed and performance both on the track and facing a downhill race. These are the reasons that led Abarth and Nitro to join forces and work together, the first result of which is the "Nitro powered by Abarth" snowboard.

It is by drawing inspiration from the same shared values that Abarth is presenting a new Limited Edition in Bologna, the new Abarth Punto scorpione. Ninety-nine cars have been made, all distinguished by a two-tone Nero Scorpione livery enhanced by a special matte black paintwork for the bonnet and roof. The exterior of the car is enriched by special glossy black graphics for roof and bonnet. They ideally reproduce the bottom of the "Nitro Powered by Abarth" snowboard and are achieved with a hand-crafted polishing treatment right at the Abarth&C. factory to achieve a perfect tailor-made customisation.

Powered by a 1.4 MultiAir engine that develops 180 HP (132 kW) at 5750 rpm and with 270 Nm of maximum torque at 2500 rpm, the Abarth Punto scorpione reaches a top speed of more than 216 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds.

Further contributions to performance come from the modified suspension and safety, as well as the adoption of floating, perforated and self-ventilated front disc brakes with oversized four-piston yellow brake calipers, perforated rear disc brakes, high performance front brake pads, front and rear Koni shock absorbers with FSD (Frequency Selective Dumping) valve and specially lowered springs. The exhaust pipe oversized in the centre segment is also taken from the by now famous "Esseesse" kit.

Inside, this special Abarth Punto scorpione features "Abarth Corsa by Sabelt" black leather seats, with red and yellow stitchings and matte black backrest, homologated and lightened in keeping with the car's racing spirit. Enriching the interiors are the laser-treated aluminium kick plate with special graphics, the stainless steel pedals with Abarth brand, and the leather steering wheel with double red and yellow stitching, just like the seats and the sporty Jaeger driving instruments.

Accompanying this new Limited Edition is the "Abarth Nitro" winter kit, designed for lovers of speed and the most daring riders, and for snowboard and mountain buffs in magical snow-covered places marked by slopes, cliffs and fresh snow. The "Abarth Nitro" winter kit contains 17" alloy wheels complete with winter tyres, a snowboard rack with magnetic fastening and a snowboard of the "Nitro powered by Abarth" line. The Abarth Team Series snowboard features a perfect poplar core to ensure strength and stability. The wood in fact guarantees flexibility, which cushions blows and the harder landings, even on uneven terrains. Speed, power, precision when turning, suppleness and lightness are the qualities that all snowboards should have. Nitro Abarth Team Series snowboards feature not only bi-lite laminates, dual degressive sidecuts and tip profiles, but also have a special Iso Nano Highspeed surface. This material has been specially researched for this snowboard to guarantee its incredible speed and long life. An Action Camera completes the kit to catch the most highly adrenaline-charged moments behind the wheel and the top performances with the "Nitro powered by Abarth" snowboard. The "Abarth Nitro" winter kit is also available for the Abarth Punto and the Abarth 500, with 16" steel wheels in the latter case.

Honestly, whilst I love all things Abarth, I'll be sticking with my Rossis (goes to book flight to Switzerland as its been 4 months since have skied)  ;D

Think I'll just get a couple of Scorpion stickers and a stripe or two for the old board and save the money for the FSD's.

It's available on all Evo's

And the older Grande (my SS has it).. The front section tilts and slides right back like a conventional sunroof..

If I remember correctly it's a £750 option?

My Burton has got stickers on but I never got round to buying skis. Silly really as I'd given boarding up as a bad game after destroying my shoulder in an accident.

Must get round to ebaying it one day to make room in the garage :'(

Any chance this can get back on topic?
There is little chance of the UK seeing this car as it's only due for 99 units.
Apparently (but don't qoute me on it) there is supposed to be some sort of Punto Esse Esse special edition in RHD next year.

Punto Scorpione will be available in the UK, but only as a special order from Turin, and only in LHD form.  No price given.  Expect precisely zero UK sales.

A quick update on Scorpione - that's the black one: 10 units will be made available in RHD form for the UK market.  Price expected to be around €21,000 (note that's Euros, not GBP) excluding VAT, VED and reg fees.  It's not clear when the UK market units will land, but elsewhere in Europe first deliveries are expected end of June.

If I think £24k then a whole load of fun new cars comes to mind

That dealer seems to price their cars on the high side if you look at their stock. Looks like they a used to selling Ferraris and Maserattis rather than Abarths.

IIRC, that's the same dealer that had the red 'Esseesse' which was just an Assetto and overpriced by about £3k, lol. /Awaits a price-drop of 20% to get any interest at all.
Title: Re: Abarth Punto Scorpione

Post by: Kaydee on July 08, 2012, 11:17:40 am
Yes JamesSS but heres the thing, whether you are talking about This model or the standard APE,there will always be those that pay more than the car is worth,I know a guy who recently bought an Audi A1 because it's EXCUSIVE,they are being churned out by the dozen, where I live there is one on every street ,Is it worth £24k ,probably not,but exclusive it very much is,it's up there with Aston Martin and Bentley in terms of units annually, look ,I own a seriously rare mountain bike,12in the world and I think only 3Of those in the UK.Its not neccasarily the best ,fastest ,but it is very much one of the rarest, best looking and exclusive bikes out there,am I stupid /crazy , bit of both I guess, you can spend your 24k on a fully loaded A1or on an Abarth, for me no contest,IMHO,have fun

Funny news:
The first hundred cars will apparently be produced before summer holiday, the other 99 after.
The only difference will be the colour of the brakes.

Pre summer will be red.
September cars yellow.

Title: Re: Abarth Punto Scorpione

Wrong thread surely ::)
Scorpione and Supersport are 2 completely different things.
Scorpione was a special edition that could only be ordered from the factory and only a few were going to be made.
Supersport is a production car and will be available to order and buy in this quarters trading.

Title: Re: Abarth Punto Scorpione
Post by: sandys on August 06, 2012, 10:55:52 pm
It has got near 5k worth of kit more than yours, its not like they are charging more for a stock APE it has the SS and Sabelts  :thumb: delivering the performance from factory you might achieve with  your aftermarket parts unwarrantied.
Title: Re: Abarth Punto Scorpione
Post by: DTPnorfolk on August 06, 2012, 11:08:57 pm
It may have 5k more kit on it but for me in reality it is not worth 5k more. The whole car standard is 17k so that an extra 30% increase in cost for some wheels, some seats, brakes and suspension is alot. Cars are generally expansive anyway. You can pay well over 30k for a Golf these days which just seems plain odd to me  ???

Then again it doesn't matter if I think it's worth it or not. I have an APE that I love and have no need to change so therefore I am not their target market.

I do want the Yellow callipers though (from the showcar, not the above pic).

I couldn't see one under 'members' cars' but wondered whether anyone in the UK has ordered a limited edition  Scorpione? Or does anyone know of one in the UK?

I believe just 10 RHD models where earmarked and where only ever going to be made to order.

Last time I looked, at least one dealer was advertising an APS on Piston Heads at £22,500 to order, so I presume they are still available......

STOP PRESS! I have just secured the 2nd Scorpione currently in the UK  ;)

Its not exactly cheap but i think rarity factor wins over and in years to come one hopes a collector may well pay bigger bucks for one!

In the flesh it is a stealthy beast! Hope to bring it to some meets this year  :)
