Advice on new tyres please
« on: August 20, 2012, 04:36:29 pm »
Anyone out there replaced their Pirellis with any other type? Mine are going to need changing soon, no complaints with longevity as they will probably do about 12K but tyre roar is pretty bad...especially now they are worn.

Did the law change recently where the tyre had to have various ratings on it for noise, wear, wet weather grip etc.? I think you will find a quiet tyre will have cr*p grip. Give quick fit a call.

Depends what you're after from the tyre and what budget you have. Comfort, grip (dry/wet), wear rate, noise etc.

Personally I think the Pzero Nero's that come as standard are p*ss poor. Pirelli has to be one of the most overrated tyre brands out there... Not sure what tyre size you're after, but a decent middle-ground tyre is the Falken 452.

Not tried them on the Abarth, but used Toyo Proxes T1-R on cars for years. Grip well wet or dry and last as well as anything. Normally quite cheap too.

Thanks guys....good to hear your thoughts. I definitely don't think the Pirellis are worth the money and they certainly are very noisy. I'll contact my local fitter and ask about the Falken 452 and Hankook Ventus

Michelin pilot exalto 3. Same as what you get with esseesse kit. Awesome tyres wet and dry and my last lot lasted 25k with pretty hard use. Toyos good but have found them noisy on motorway and don't last to well.

After ploughing the forums and comments I've learned that low profile tyres are always noisier but Bridgestone generally seem to be rated well in that respect while still not being crap in other areas. So I reckon it's gonna be 4 x RE50s or RE002s...helps that I live in Leamington where Bridgestone UK are so maybe get a good deal!!

If you're happy to fork out big money for tyres (based on your choice of Bridgestone); you might want to look at another brand of tyre. Not sure on your tyre size, probably 215/45/17, but if you can fit 225's without rubbing or 205's with some stretch - it will open you up to some better tyres. Bridgestone are pretty poor IMHO, but some people swear by them... Have a look for the following:

    Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta
    Michelin PS2/PS3
    Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2

Don't know about you guys but sometimes these forums are just gold!!

Thank you so much JamesSS! I hadn't even heard of the Goodyears and on just checked them out, they are exactly what I'm looking for plus it looks like they will be quite a bit cheaper. Just waiting for a call from Silverline now.

Let you know how I get on....cheers :thumb:

What he said haha forgot about Goodyear. They are what the police use apparently on the motorway patrol stuff. Had the vredestein on a vx220 once to and they were pretty special. But I think they start at a 225 not 215.

Not sure if it's pukka to ask here but does anyone have an APE spare wheel they'd like to sell or anyone have ideas of where I could go, (pref not too madly expensive) . I know there isn't a space saver 'cos it won't fit over the Brembos.

I had the SS michelins on my 500, changed to pzeros for the first change and they werent as good as bridgestone, now I have toyo T1R's and they are on par with the michellins, but about £30-40 cheaper a tyre, so I'll be using the toyo's again in the future, nice looking tyre too, and cabin noise isn't as bad as pirelli but still not silent
