Blowing noise from inside bonnet
« on: October 22, 2014, 12:12:55 pm »
Hi all,

I am getting blowing/light tapping kinda noise from inside the bonnet. i have checked the air box as I was messing about with an induction kit a few weeks ago. The induction kit is now off.
Strange thing is no difference in power.

Has anybody else had anything simular to this?

Yea could be the exhaust manifold. Does it tick/blow when you Rev it next to a wall. If so I'd put money on it being that. Mine did it. Abarth wouldn't diagnose it without charging me to dismantle it to be sure. 600 just to dismantle and diagnose and only then would they decide if they would honour a goodwill because it was 3 months out of warrantee.
So I brought the gasket from fiat. 35 squid and then had a local alfa specialist. ALFATEC in whitley bay fit it for me. Whole job done for less than 200 ;-)

Had the same. Mine was more noticeable in the morning on start up and gradually got worse.
I had the exhaust manifold gasket changed, plus some studs replaced which had obviously got loose over the time it was blowing.
I might have got stung, but the gasket and other gaskets that were replaced in order to strip the parts needed for the gasket were £100, cost me £250, but quiet as now

Nah you didn't get stung. That's pretty reasonable. I had studs too. Forgot about that. But yea get a local (preferably) italian or turbo specialist to do it

I will have a look at that. My friend owns a garage and spares shop so could probably get it done cheap.
Is it something that I could do myself at home?

    Probably a stupid question

Depends on how confident you are and whether you have the correct tools. Space is tight. I suppose you could make a start, and get help from your friend if you run into problems.

Just ask them for an exhaust manifold. It'll be about 50 quid and comes complete as gasket and heat shield.

Got it done. Exhaust manifold gasket £34.99 from dealers and £80 for fitting in a small garage in bradford. My car has its mojo back.
