ECU Tuning VS TMC Tuning Box (Safety)
« on: June 05, 2016, 09:07:28 pm »
Hello Guys,

I own an Abarth Punto Evo 2010 163hp, which i recently upgraded to SS (180hp) with official ecu.

My car has also
- Full 63.5mm Exchaust
- Forge Blow Off Valve
- Forge Induction Kit
- Forge Intercooler

Now my question is that i found an ECU tuning that increase the boost pressure to:
Full boost: 1.6bar@2500 rpm
Constant pressure:1.45bar
Power approx: 215hp
Torque approx: 290Nm

However, TMC tuning box provides max +20hp but without this kind of pressure.

What you would choose between these 2 in terms of safety? Because in terms of power, obviously the first one would be better.

Thank you
Regards

You won't get similar power from ECU tuning without burning the same amount of fuel and air, there is no magic to it, the difference with the TMC  is that you don't get a real boost reading without plumbing in a boost gauge as it tricks the sensors for electronic read out.

So you would go with ECU tuning?

    Also,

    DO you think that

    Full boost: 1.6bar@2500 rpm
    Constant pressure:1.45bar

    will be safe enough?

They will both get you to similar levels but your best bet is a bigger turbo if you want it safely and reliably, rather than overspeeding the stock unit.

I see, do you think there is something else to change in the car other than those specified in the first post just to maintain safety?

 The turbo is the thing to change if you want to do it right, other wise you can just turn up the wick and drive it hoping the turbo doesn't go pop as happened to mine when it was running around that ball park.

    Any recommendations for turbo?

I saw a good setup with TD04 , going over ~230 hp. What you would chose?
