Servicing... How important is it to use abarth Oil
« on: August 05, 2014, 09:04:46 am »
Hi,
I've seen a few posts knocking around that Abarth's should use a very specific oil?
I have a punto abarth esseesse and I'm having it serviced next week. Not at a dealer, but they do specialize in fiat/alfa sports range.

....Should i be buying myself a tin of Abarth oil and asking them to use that?

Thanks
Aidan

as long as its a good brand, with the same viscosity type, wouldnt worry too much, always fully synthetic though.

I would use the oil specified in the owners handbook. The multiair engine with its electro hydraulic valves can be upset if the wrong oil is used. Any engine warranty claims may have the oil analysed first. If they are specialized in fiat/alfa they should know this.

As above - I'd use the recommended Selenia oil, especially if the car is still under warranty.

It's not particularly expensive, from memory it's about £45-£50 for 4L - which you only need 3.5 of so you can keep the remainder

Its has to be ACEA C3 5w/40 for the APESS if the oil meets that spec you'll be fine, also note as you are new the SS requires oil/filter changes every 6k. :)

I only use Mobile 1 in the car, my 2nd service was £47 as I got one of my friends to do it & as he has is own business, also stamped the service book.  Just as good as going to a dealer & paying over the top prices.

Theres no problem in having your mate do your servicing. If you want to save money and don't care about your warranty or its run out. However if you want to keep your warranty going its best to either have it serviced at the dealers or a reputable independent garage.

Can you get Mobil 1 oil in 5W-40?
