How uncommon is the APE
« on: June 08, 2013, 03:05:24 pm »
I gave a lift to an Italian Guy and asked if there were many Abarths back in Italy (I assumed they would be like a MINI Cooper in his Country).   He assumed it was a standard Fiat and I had to explain that it was the sports version and asked if he have ever come across similar cars and he wasn't aware of the Abarth name.

I don't know how much of a car fan he was but I was very surprised, is the APE a rare car across the whole world not just he UK?

He probs not a car fan as abarth is a huge name in italy.I think the whole abarth range would be fairly rare over there...just look at the prices over there. My dad went to a fiat dealer ship and we told him the abarth500 starts at 14.5k here and he thought we was joking. He went to tell us the a500 over there starts at around 18/19000 euros.. so about 18/19 grand. Not sure what they price the comp and tourismo over there as these prices was for the standard a500.So i think due to the high premium over there...probly a rare sight.
Now with added monza fun :P

I think an APE is still quite a rare car on the UK roads as I've never passed one since buying mine last year and only seen them parked up at car shows.

I've seen 4 in the year and a half I've known about them. A500s are getting really common around me now though!

A500's are a fairly common sight here in Belfast because its sporty but small so the perfect city car. When I say common I mean like maybe 1 a week but in the poshier or more fashionable areas there is quite a lot. My dealer said most people that buy the A500 only want that car and the other car they could consider is a Range Rover so goes to show how well received the A500's really are given they are on a power with some people with Range Rovers forgetting the massive price difference and running costs of course.

Up until last Friday when I test drove my APE Evo Supersport I didn't even know Abarth did Puntos. And as much as I am into my cars I have only really heard of Abarth a handful of times thanks to Top Gear and a video game.

I have never seen a APE in this country apart from at the dealers and apparently my SS is the only one in the whole of Ireland so I love the fact that its pretty rare.

I just posted the same story in the 'Was it You?' section, but driving Dundee-Aberdeen on saturday, and had a fellow APE arrive on my tail in Dundee, and it turns out we were both going to Aberdeen, so convoyed up the A90 for 60 miles or so. I've never seen another on the open roads, so I just wonder what were the odds of us bumping into each other while doing the same journey!
