Handbrake issue...a trip to the dealers shortly.
« on: December 30, 2011, 04:02:01 pm »
My handbrake caused me some bother last week when i pulled into my driveway last week. My driveway is a steep hill and the APE until last week always sat on the hill no bother. However, pulled in last week into the drive onto the hill done my usual routine of stopping the car and putting on  the handbrake to hear a clunk. a second after the clunk (with the handbrake still engaged) "pressure" seemed to be lost at the rear left wheel of the car and the car started rolling down the hill slowly. Thankfully i was still in the car when this happened. Ever since the car has not been near a slope or hill when parked. Any body any idea if this is a problem or wether the handbrake just needs adjusted due to settling in ? anyone else had this problem ? Any replies appreciated ! thanks.

Sounds like handbrake will need re-adjustment.
My 500 was pulling on the left more than on the right for some reason too...

could it be something to do with the hillholder? if you stop on a steep hell with the footbrake the hill holder will grab for a fraction then release with a bang. just a thought :thumb:

Don't think it is anything to do with the hill holder to be fair as thats what i initially thought. The rear left wheels brake lost grip when the car was off. regardless if the car is on or off and it is parked on a hill it happens. booked in on monday coming so we'll see what happens then.

The hillholder works on the normal brakes of the car, as part of the ESP feature.
The handbrake should be completely independent to that ;)

seeing that comment reminded me, i always wondered...when braking do the back brake assist in stopping you or are they there for esp and handbraking ?
