Abarth Punto SuperSport Test Drive
« on: October 21, 2012, 10:50:05 pm »
Yesterday I was lucky enough to take the new Abarth Punto SuperSport out for a little spin. It was an interesting test as the model had Konis and Sabelts fitted as extras.

For anyone who has driven or owns an APE EsseEsse then it will be very familiar I assume. The exhaust note was certainly more noticeable in the cabin that mine is. The car felt smooth and progressive and much better than a stock APE.

The koni kit fitted has convinced me that I should get one for mine and now I really want a set of Sabelts. Shame they cost 1.5k!!

Overall it is a nice car for the money. It isn't as quick as mine feels but then mine has alot of extra bits and is well run-in.

My local dealer had a few other nice toys in the garage including both 595s (Turismo & Competizione). I drove the Turismo and as nice as it was it didn't feel as nice to drive as the APE does. The Competizione had the Monza exhaust fitted which I will never tire of hearing. It sounds amazing!.

As mentioned in this post it's gotta be hard to do a comparision as the the cars character is changed with the SS mods, making it a better car to drive but doesn't feel as silly because of them.

I fancy some Sabelts too, I'd have a set if they weren't priced so ridiculously.

I have a Forge custom cold air intake and Forge Intercooler. I also have a Forge BOV and Actuator but they won't make any difference to the performance (The actuator has the stock spring fitted so no extra boost).

Which one is better to drive:   an "SS" or the "Scorpione" as both have 180BHP..? I may upgrade in the new year.

The Scorpione is basically a posh EsseEsse. There are plenty of people on here who have them but the SuperSport with Konis fitted should be pretty much the same to drive as the Scorpione I imagine.

I test drove the Supersport from Romford Abarth and was really impressed. The steering, gear shift and exhaust note were spot on. But i couldn't justify trading my APE in just yet from practically the same car  :P I'm really hoping Abarth bring out a replacement soon for the EVO  :thumb:

Doubt you'll see anything for a while. Fiat have reportedly delayed the development of the new Punto. Probably won't see the Fiat version until 2014  >:(
