Timing Belt
« on: January 22, 2017, 01:04:44 pm »
Hi All

My Car is a 60 Reg APE, It has only done 25k miles. I have received a leaflet from a local garage where I have been having my car serviced saying my timing belt needs to be changed. I have checked the service manual and it appears to need a lot more mileage on the clock before it needs changing.

Due to a change in personal circumstances I am more than likely getting rid of my Abarth around September - so am reluctant to start doing things on it that probably don't need doing.

Can someone confirm when the Timing Belt needs changing and whether I should change mine.

Cheers Remy

If your car was 2 years old with 25k on clock, then no, too early for belt change.
But your car is 6 maybe 7 yr old now. so as belts can deteriorate with age, then this is likely why you were advised to replace it.
i changed mine at an early mileage for same reason.
Entirely up to you whether to go ahead or not, I would get a visual inspection of belt condition to help decide.

Cam belts should be changed at mileage or time intervals, which ever comes first.

Time interval is every 5 years or 4 years if frequent or dusty conditions.

If I were you, I'd get it changed pronto :thumb:

    Hi All.

Had the timing belt replaces at £300,

Since having this done I have noticed a Pungent Burning Rubber smell. I did get the odd smell PRIOR to the belot getting done and thought it was the brakes as it seemed to happen under braking.

Has car in to Kwik Fit today and they checked it over and said all Brakes and calipers etc are fine. They did notice that the Auxilliary Belt is wearing and they think it may be that?

Has anyone else had the problem and what it could possibly be. The Clutch feels ok
