Getting some spacers what sizes?
« on: October 15, 2014, 09:02:14 pm »
Im abit confused about how to get a safe flush fit, ive done some measurements but round here its hard to find level ground and so its not the same clearance on both sides but i moved the car around abit and got it close and took more than 1 measurement and i am thinking averaging to the middle should work out? Because closer i gotto level ground the numbers got closer in towards the middle average value and these are pretty close now i think. Anyway here are my measurements (all in mm):

(Left front/Right front
Left rear/right rear):

Number1:
15/18
27/28

Number2:
15/18
27.5/27.5

Number3:
18/14.5
27.5/29

Based upon these measuremtnes what spacers would you recomended front and rear?

Sizes i can get here are 5,12,16,20,22,25,30mm (last 3 slightly more expensive)

I was thinking front 12mm and rear 25mm as i dont want the front to be wider than the rear just in case. This sound reasonable is it gonna be safe enough?

I was looking at getting spacers for the rear too to flush the gap, seems to be as long as you get hubcentric ones and the correct sized bolts to fit there shouldnt be a problem as loads of people have them on

I've put 16mm Sparco spacers on the rear of my SuperSport. Looks great. Didnt bother with the front as it is advised that you only go up to 5mm and didnt see the point. anything more than that and you probably wont be doing the car any good in terms of wear and tear.

I got the spacers from eBay they were around £60 and fit perfect.

    Hope this helps :thumb:

So where did you hear that you can't go more than 5mm on the front? And for what reasons was it safety or just purely for handling/balance, because I'd rather sacrifice some handling for it to look flush. And some pics of yours would be ace!

Currently at work but ill try and upload a picture if i can. I was advised by the person who i bought them from to not go wider than 5mm purely for safety and wear and tear. It would definitely look better the wider you go but with it being your turning wheels i thought it was best to follow the advice i was given.

That said, it was the chunky look from the back i was after anyway with the current setup being nowhere near the edge of the arch.

Looks way better and chunkier. If you can, get some more pics from infront of the back tyre facing backwards i.e. a front/side shot.

So its not an official recommended thing, there are quite a few i have read on the italian abarth forums that have put more than 5mm on fronts with no probs, think I will do it and take my chances just how much is the question.

Haven't really got any pics and I'm at work at the moment. To be honest it wouldn't take much on the front as its not as far from the edge of the arch on the front anyway. Down to personal preference though. Hope it looks well for you :) I'm sure that it will!

Yeah it just bugs me thats all, love a flush fit on all four. As above there is a 14-18mm gap between tyre and edge of fender at the front so it could go more to make it flush. Something like this....  :thumb:

The look like the 18" wheels though which helps fill the gap

That's the solution, bigger wider wheels ;)

Love the look of that, think I'll do the rears at some stage too

Just another quick question to you. Think I will go for 20mm at the rear and I was just wondering with your setup do you have more of a gap at the front or the rear wheels now, or are they about equal in width (relative to the arch)? Cheers.

somethink to take into account oa front track is wider then rear standard also if going wide go for hubcentric spacers and lpnger bolts (if bolts cant remember if they bolts or studs on puntps lol)
