You know you're driving something special when....
« on: March 11, 2014, 11:08:16 am »
Parked the car up at Chirk castle in North Wales last Sunday. Walking back to the car I could see a lady was taking photos of it. She didn't see me until I clicked my remote and the indicators flashed, then she kind of jumped back.. " Carry on !" I said. She explained that her son was going to test drive an APE this week, and was taking some pics to show him.. I guess you don't see that many Abarths in Chirk... I told her what a great car it was and that if he drove it steadily he'd be fine. Then you get in your car feeling really pleased with yourself because people think your car is so unusual they want to take photos of it. Even my missus, who doesn't really get the whole Abarth thing was impressed.

That's the one reason I edged towards the APE rather than a 595 - which is a great car, don't get me wrong and I love the noise from the exhaust, but the rarity of the APE trumped it.  Even against a standard Fiat Punto Evo it has more striking differences than similarities.  Stick a normal 500 next to an A500 and that isn't always the case (sorry!), especially without the side stripes.

Even more so if you de-badge the rear, you'll get bemused looks from the public!

Yeah thats nice. I love rarity... my previous car was a Brera and they are pretty rare but this goes a step further.

One time I walked up to pay for gas and the girls behind the counter were like 'what car is that then!?' Its the sort of car that makes people talk to you, if you rock up in a lambo or ferrari, everyone knows what it is and you have loads of cash etc... and no one dares say much usually. And if you rock up in an RS4 or M3 etc... no one cares either cos they look common and only petrol heads would notice.

I was driving about in the APE on sunday when it was warm here, saw about 4 or 5 ferraris and other high end cars but not one abarth lol let alone an APE.

Atm I'd rather have my APE than a ferrari.

    True :)

I love my Supersport, you do get lots of strange looks as you go by. Not had anyone approach me yet or caught any one taking pics while it was parked up but have seen two people take pics when sat in traffic :)
