Hello and head unit advice please...
« on: March 28, 2022, 11:28:09 am »
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, but it's my first post so hello everyone hope you can help!...

I'm the proud new owner of a 2016 Competizione. Had the car for a couple of weeks now and loving every second. For anyone questioning the practicality of an Abarth I've got a new baby and she loves the car and a baby seat fits in the back perfectly! I've come from a Porsche Boxster, but it's easily as fun to drive so can't wait for summer.

Sure I'll want more performance eventually, but my only major problem at the moment is coming from newer cars I'm struggling with the lack of CarPlay. I've already purchased a new head unit but can't find any videos of installs. Has anyone got any experience fitting one of these and are there any tips I should know about when it comes to replacing the original unit?

This is the headunit I've gone for along with a DAB adaptor - https://audiotechdirect.com/uge-psa70500fl-android-10-0-carplay-auto-gps-bt-radio-for-fiat-500-2016-2020/

Thank you all in advance,

Ollie

    Simple answer is, it depends...

Is yours a pre-faclift or a facelift model? Pre-facelifts had a 'Blue & Me' single din stereo and you can either get an adaptor kit to plug into the CAN bus so you can use the steering wheel controls and a standard single din stereo  (e.g. the one I've put on Ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294854402189) or double din with modified heater vents. Or add a separate switched +12v feed and with a little bit of creativity you can connect the stereo's line input to the existing Blue & Me module , and retain satnav / USB / phone integration (albeit the latter isn't so hot) at the expense of losing the steering wheel volume controls.

If it's a facelift it'll have a double din mount and use a new system called UConnect, this one requires less mucking about with the dash to replace, but does need a parameter updated using multiecuscan, or you'll end up with a flashing speedo and CAN bus errors.
