"Building Media Library...Please Wait!"
« on: November 03, 2009, 11:26:30 pm »
Hi,

Every time I start my A500 after the ignition has been off and I try to navigate the USB stick music library I receive the dreaded message: "Building Media Library...Please Wait!" until the index is built (or possibly read into memory). :banghead:

I was under the impression that the B&M unit kept an index of the music that exists on the currently implemented USB stick; only requiring to re-build the index upon changing the USB stick. Surely this has got to be the case; but if indeed it is, the B&M system must have the slowest processing capability on the planet to read the index into memory for access!

Does anyone have any clues as to why it takes so long to reference an already indexed memory stick from 'ignition on' please?

Thanks guys.

Rich.

I've had this once on mine.  For whatever random reason, it's failed to correctly build the library.

Take the stick out, and put in another with just a few tracks on.   Let it rebuild the library, and play a track to make sure.

Then take that stick out and put the original one back in.

BTW, I always swap sticks with the ignition off, and always give the system plenty of time to build the library before asking it to do anything.

Let us know how you get on.

    Hi Alex,

Unfortunately I have already done this and have to use this technique when the index gets corrupted. The issue I have is with the "Building Media Library...Please Wait" statement occurring all the time when the ignition is turned back on again. If left for around 5 to ten minutes the index is searchable (via steering wheel controls). In addition, if the MP3 system is set to auto-start playing, the music will play a track but B&M will still emit the message if you try to access too early.

Do you not get this delay when re-starting your car and accessing the music list (Artist list for example)?

    Thanks,

    Rich.

No delay for me - once its built the index the first time, that's it.

Like I said, I've only once had a situation were it kept saying it needed to rebuild the index, and swapping sticks worked for me.

Tried swapping sticks with Autoplay turned off?

How many tracks have you got on the stick?

Think I am using 4GB Sandisk sticks and they are full to the nearest track of music; maybe this is preventing an index to be copied to the stick if this is where it is stored? Will switch off autoplay and re-build index as you suggest, thanks Alex.

Sandisk is nearly always a winner.

I think the library is stored internally, but I wouldn't be surprised if clearing a few tracks off the stick helped it along.  Clear some space, turn off Autoplay, swap sticks with ignition off, and let it rebuild the index before starting the engine.  Rebuilding shouldn't take that long, and if your Sandisk has LEDs on it, you can easily see when it's finished.

    Let us know!

Right after just kind of ignoring the issue for a while (well 3 months to be honest) I decided to give it another whirl following Alex's advice, two memory sticks no joy, oh well back to the Itrip+Ipod for me.

Routing around for said Itrip I come across an old 1gb Sandisk Cruiser stick, thought "oh well give it a whirl if only to say yah boo sucks even the mighty lord of sticks won't work in my addled car"

     :-[

Works spot on, off to find some larger capacity Cruiser sticks online now

    Thank you Alex

This has been doing my head in with my Abarth, however I never had a problem with it in my Sporting. Everytime I start up and I remove the stick and put it straight back in and the library is built straight away.

Is it possible that the size of the memory ofthe stick is causing the issue?

If olopboy managed to get a 1Gb stick working fine, but problems arise with a 4Gb stick, it could be the reason.

Perhaps the B&M system is simply not able to handle such a large playlist?

Thanks for all your replies guys.

Today I switched off auto-start and then rebuilt the library index. This has definitely improved the speed of access to the list of music data through B&M. I now manually switch on the playback of digital music and can access the music data straight away. :thumb:

I have had problems when the stick is almost full ....recently found that tracks that wouldnt even show on the B&M have started to play now theres a few meg free....not sure if this will help, sometimes once a week or so the stick will "reset" and start from the default album (like when its on autoplay and building library) even though ive been listening to elsewhere on the stick.....

so all in all some wierd things happen in an inconsistent amount of time   :-\
