2013 MY blue and me
« on: September 07, 2013, 10:35:57 pm »
hi all

I've been looking through the forum and I can't really see the answer I'm looking for

I've just ordered a brand new a500, what the situation with sat nav?

I know its not an option anymore and the tomtom 2 blue and me uses the port where the turbo gauge is, so what are the best options, as I like the idea of the tomtom 2 integration but what bracket. I really do not want leads plugged in and suction cups everywhere

I have an iPhone 4 I've read that some people use the voice on the phone nav, but I don't think I've got voice on the 4. I know my ipad mini has voice so I assume that will blue tooth but to be honest its a bit large

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

I believe Tom Tom 2 for abarth would still integrate with the cars blue and me but does mean you will have a suction cup and wire

Only thing I can think of getting round this would have an auto electrician run the wire through the dash and through a vent (possibly the one on the top the dash for demisting) but means cutting bits of the dash and being a brand new car, would you really want to do this?

As for the iPhone I can answer this for certain, the iPhone 4 does not have voice over for maps but you could download another version which will be able to voice over for you. I personally use this as the voice over is perfect but I do a 4s and can use apple maps app

    Hi Adey

Thanks for the reply, for my sins I spent 10yrs as an auto electrician and I've cut up cars BEFORE they go to the customer, however I agree with you there's no way I'll cut up my car!!!!
I've seen a couple of picture with the sav using a suction pad/cup on the colour coded dash and I assume that it will run off its own battery and could charge via mains at home. I will look at voice options for the phone, but to be honest I don't use nav that much so the phone option would be fine......but I do like a gadget!!

    Thanks again

You're right with the internal battery, I think people forget they have built in battery's and I can't imagine there are many journeys you couldn't get away with just the one charge. Worst case scenario you keep the charger in the glove box and break it out in emergencies

I've seen vent clips used before to maybe clean up the mount look but unsure around quality

Thanks for the link not bad item

Will continue the research if I could get a cup that stick to the top of the dash (when needed) next to the turbo gauge kind of copying the tomom 2 slot linked to blue and me so it looked genuine then I would be happy with that, the question is can I get a tomom holder and pad?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Best people to ask would be abarth UK maybe or even Tom Tom themselves

I know you can get a mount for the normal fiat 500 and probably won't be that much as the unit it self will probably be the same shell

Have a look on fiats website

I've used Brodit holders in a couple of vehicles. Pricey but faultless.
iPhone 4 will give voice commands through the speakers if plugged in to the the USB.

An iPhone 4S will with the standard app but unfortunately not a 4 ( through the normal map app anyway)

I would get a bog standard tomtom instead of the blue&me one as the newer models all come with free lifetime map upgrades and bigger screen for less money.

You would need to spend extra on the mount for the blue&me one and it still only uses it's own internal speaker for directions.
The tomtom 1000 live additional mount kit works with the blue&me2.

    Hi itchi

Many thanks for your comments and the links very useful. I've just downloaded an iPhone app which has voice commands to link via blu and me but when testing no voice can be heard although it bongs for speed alerts (volume hi) I'm assuming as its only a 4 no nav app will work vocally, if anyone cm confirm I would appreciate it

    Cheers
