Media player not decoding MP3 properly
« on: May 21, 2009, 08:21:31 pm »
All,

I have a memory stick in my A500 filled with songs from the year 2000. They are all MP3 128kps.

When some of them are played from the memory stick, the treble or top end sounds muffled and they sound like it's a bad recording or something lacking clarity.

The same track played from the same MP3 burned to a CD sounds fine.

Anyone else noticed this?

Have to say I haven't, its got great play back quality and I'm a bit of an audiophile. I'm wondering if there was an update between our cars as I really don't have any of the troubles you've had.

Wondering if its worth going to see you 'friends' to see if there is one?

Actually re-read that post, do you mean turning the mp3s to audio cd or just creating a data disc with them?

They are too far away, it's a 3 hour drive.

As your car is newer, is there any way to compare B&M Firmware versions?

I could email you one of the tracks to see what it sounds like in your car?

    Cheers - Keith

Yeah fire it to my hotmail account thats listed on my profile, I think John's logged in so he might be able to shed light on any to find the firmware version.

Dont think there has been a firmware update for 500 for a little while now so that is unlikely to be the problem.

I've noticed this aswell.  But I might have an idea... the only tracks that seem to have that 'muffled' type sound, are the ones I've converted from AAC or protected formats.  The way I've gotten round this is to actually burn a proper CD of the album (not use TuneClone, or the like), then re-import the CD.  Once that copy is loaded onto a stick, it all seems OK.

Not sure why its like this, and it does take a little time/wastes a perfectly good blank CD (but they're not exactly expensive), but it does seem to work.

    Give it a go....
