Blue&Me Screen Language Change from Italian to English
« on: September 30, 2009, 08:14:45 pm »
Hi guys,

I have now taken possession of my A500 EsseEsse and am on the whole very happy. However I have a quirk with the Blue&Me on-screen text language. The screen options are listed in Italian. However the voice commands are in English, as are the Dash menu options (Passenger Airbag settings etc).

I have tried to update the system with software release 5.4 in an attempt to change the language to English, however when I try this I get the on screen error 'error:10'. To overcome this error I have tried the following:

    * Re-setting B&M by disconnecting the battery and then trying the re-install.
    * Using another new Sandisk Cruzer USB stick.
    * Installing eco-Drive, downloading the data from B&M and then trying the 5.4 update.
    * I even tried updating the voice language to English again to see if by some small chance this would also change the screen language but it didn't, however the language update did work!

If at all possible I'd rather resolve the issue myself as unfortunately my dealer is 140 miles away. In addition, it seems flipping crazy that it isn't easy to alter the language in a simple way?!

I have read on the Fiat Forum that others have had a similar issue. Does anyone know how the problem was actually resolved please (other than take back to dealer)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Rich.

Have a look through the Blue&Me sticky - there's a link to Fiat.com where you can download the language files, and instructions on how to install them.

    Good luck. :thumb:

Thanks for your help guys but the language packs only relate to updating the voice commands, not the actual language of the on-screen text. I have tried and no-cigar!  :thumbd:

Latest Update: John has just called to say that he has spoken with Abarth and they know of the issue and are looking to release a software patch in the near future to change the language.

In addition, they have stated that the 'error:10' occurs on my system when trying to re-install release 5.4 because 5.4 is already installed. I knew that 5.4 was already installed and had wondered if this is what the error related to but had incorrectly assumed that if the error related to this it would be documented with the 5.4 update; bad assumption!

The Language pack wont help on this one I'm afraid, there is a software problem with Rich's car that Turin are looking into.

    Hi
just collected my 500esseesse from Thames today and it has the same problem. They tried to reset it 2 or 3 times before I left but it wasnt resolved...I guess there is a batch of them...the whole B&M thing is too b clever for its own good...I bet if it was made by Bosch it would work!

Guess I'll have to be patient and wait for patch or upgrade.... I dont really mind the radio set to fortissimo!

If it was Apple it would have a bizarre connector and cost more.

How long ago did you get the language changed please?
I ask this because Abarth have detailed this as an issue with a few cars and they are currently putting together a software fix. If you have had the same problem then I would assume a fix has been supplied very recently and may now be available?

    Interesting, thanks.
And you are sure your problem was the same as mine; i.e. the actual on-screen B&M language (not the spoken language) displays text in Italian?
