guys there is a download available for this problem, it is only available through the teseo site at dealerships,
they need to look up recall campaign 5344 and run through service news 55.44.08 of 07/11/08,
this will take them to the correct download
the file is Bonifica C1_199Small2_Europa.zip (european nations except turkey)
hope this sorts out your problems

    Mal

Great Post.  Will try and report back.  Appreciate the help!

Still waiting for them to confirm whether they have tried this fix.  In the meantime, they want to replace the whole dash unit!  It will take 2 days to do and not sure I want to run this risk.

ive done a few recalls with the software and that has sorted it,

Guys, just to be clear the fix requires the instrument panel (dash) to be replaced and software updated, right?  If so, how easy is it to do this job?  I don't want a car with loads of creaks!

might not be in your case though but an instument panel replacement and software flash would take about 1-1.5 hours,
no idea why they want to take your dash out!!!!!!! ???

I see, probably me just assuming they need to take the dash out.  So the instrument panel can be changed without doing that then?

    Thanks for your help.
