B&M 5.5 Update page

Blue&me updated to 5.5

Admin notes:

If you purchased a Fiat or Abarth 500 with chassis number 504557 or higher, Blue&Me implements new hardware for which no iPod or iPhone adapter is needed.

Note: Even with the 5.5 update, cars produced before this chassis number will still require the adapter.

To clarify, there is currently no update for customers with Blue&Me Nav installed, although it is expected to follow later.  Some websites are reporting that an update is available - the update is for Blue&Me Map only, not Blue&Me Nav.

All the details available are on the B&M website  linked above but reading the details its more to add phones to the compatability list than anything else.

Edit noted this on the adaptor page:

If you purchased a Fiat 500 with chassis number 504557 or higher, Blue&MeTM implements new hardware for which no iPod or iPhone adapter is needed.

Looks like the 5.5 update will still need the adapter on 'older' models

Ok - Just updated to 5.5 on my GPA.

Seems to be fine, all I can say is wait. It seems to restart a few times, one of which does take a long time (looks like its doing FA, guessing its writing to flash or crc checking etc), eventually it said update complete etc tho..

    Results:
My iPhone 3GS 32GB running iOS 4.0 with videos on it that had the initial problem of playing for 3 seconds then cutting to radio seems to be resolved..

My iPhone 4 32GB seems to be running ok too - no issues to report (have no videos on my iPhone 4)

My iPad - Not tested, cant be fooked as i dont see the point ;)

One but that i *think* is squashed, is that after turning the engine off and leaving the iPhone plugged in, I can now brows through artists/playlists etc without having to disconnect/re-connect phone...

Time will tell how good this update is im guessing....

Tha Ben, I have never had to turn the engine on to browse, so with the car being a week old, maybe I have the 5.5 ?

The actual update files date back to May, not sure if the A500 numbers are contiguous with F500 chassis numbers (I think they) so you would be able to tell that way. As yours has the new B&M hardware 5.5 would be the most likely version on your car.

Dan, It was a bug where using the B&M connector it would do the following:

Work when initially plugged in and engine on etc, if you then turned engine off, leaving the iPhone/iPod in place, restarted engine and tried to browse to artists/albums/playlists etc using B&M it would say that they cannot be found...

you had to physically unplug the iDevice and plug it back in before anything could be seen.

Not sure about the 500/A500 but it was defiantly an issue in the GP/AGP.

spoke to Ajay who has been running around the dealership testing his iPhone on all models.

said anything from May onwards works without the dongle, anything that isn't 5.5 won't, but he said if you upgrade the software to 5.5 it will work without dongle. hope that makes sense  :-\

Only if you've got the hardware upgrade, as per Chris's earlier post.
