If you purchased a Fiat or Abarth 500 with chassis number 504557 or higher, Blue&Me implements new hardware for which no iPod or iPhone adapter is needed.
Note: Even with the 5.5 update, cars produced before this chassis number will still require the adapter.
To clarify, there is currently no update for customers with Blue&Me Nav installed, although it is expected to follow later. Some websites are reporting that an update is available - the update is for Blue&Me Map only, not Blue&Me Nav.

(not that its going to be!)

All the details available are on the B&M website linked above but reading the details its more to add phones to the compatability list than anything else.
Edit noted this on the adaptor page: If you purchased a Fiat 500 with chassis number 504557 or higher, Blue&MeTM implements new hardware for which no iPod or iPhone adapter is needed.
Looks like the 5.5 update will still need the adapter on 'older' models

The lists never seems to be stunningly acurate, my HTC Magic works just fine but isn't listed, always a bit suck it and see with B&M

Ok - Just updated to 5.5 on my GPA.
Seems to be fine, all I can say is wait. It seems to restart a few times, one of which does take a long time (looks like its doing FA, guessing its writing to flash or crc checking etc), eventually it said update complete etc tho..
Results: My iPhone 3GS 32GB running iOS 4.0 with videos on it that had the initial problem of playing for 3 seconds then cutting to radio seems to be resolved..
My iPhone 4 32GB seems to be running ok too - no issues to report (have no videos on my iPhone 4)
My iPad - Not tested, cant be fooked as i dont see the point ;)
One but that i *think* is squashed, is that after turning the engine off and leaving the iPhone plugged in, I can now brows through artists/playlists etc without having to disconnect/re-connect phone...
Time will tell how good this update is im guessing....

Tha Ben, I have never had to turn the engine on to browse, so with the car being a week old, maybe I have the 5.5 ?

The actual update files date back to May, not sure if the A500 numbers are contiguous with F500 chassis numbers (I think they) so you would be able to tell that way. As yours has the new B&M hardware 5.5 would be the most likely version on your car.

Dan, It was a bug where using the B&M connector it would do the following:
Work when initially plugged in and engine on etc, if you then turned engine off, leaving the iPhone/iPod in place, restarted engine and tried to browse to artists/albums/playlists etc using B&M it would say that they cannot be found...
you had to physically unplug the iDevice and plug it back in before anything could be seen.
Not sure about the 500/A500 but it was defiantly an issue in the GP/AGP.

said anything from May onwards works without the dongle, anything that isn't 5.5 won't, but he said if you upgrade the software to 5.5 it will work without dongle. hope that makes sense :-\ :thumb:

If it works already there isn't really any point, but you can do the update yourself just by following the link and the instructions available there, no need to go to a dealer.

looks like my chassis is 505263, so hopefully has the new hardware. I'll need to see if my Ipod Video works on it as I've just been using a 4Gb USB stick for playing music up until now.

Hi,
Just got my A500 and am still learning the functions. I would appreciate some help if possible!
Paired my i phone without any issue today. What do I have to do to use my ipod touch? I connected it to the usb socket in the car but nothing. Would the b & m adapter sort this issue out?
Thanks for any feedback.
Greg.

Going back through the thread, depends when your car was made. Earlier Fiat Group cars need the dongle. Go back in the thread to check, not sure what the date is but anything 09 or earlier defo needs the dongle.

The Fiat.com website unfortunately still says:-
Quote
Software update for Blue&MeTM NAV is under development and will be available as soon as possible.
Edit: Scratch that. If you go to the new Blue&Me website:-
Change the second of the two pull-downs to "Blue&Me Nav", then click "Blue&Me Updates". Click somewhere in the wall of text that appears below, and it starts a download of something looks like the 5.5 Nav update.
However. Very Large Disclaimer: I have no idea what this is, have no way of testing it, and couldn't even say if it'll be in Italian or English. Install at your own risk.

So, how do you install this update? Doesn't really tell you on the fiat website :( Is it just a matter of unzipping the download and copying it onto a usb stick?

There are no instruction in the zip Alex? Only istall (doesn't give me any information on updating), DEU.pku, COU.pku, C82S, C82R, C82E and 82UP.
Ignore that, found the PDF!
Thanks ;)

Alex - thank you brining to my attention the possible upgrade for the Blue&Me. I have been successfully using my iPhone in my A500ss for a year now but had to live with the disappointment of not easily being able to access my music on the Iphone through the blue&me system. However, on Friday I trusted the upgrade to my local dealer and now everything works. You still need the iPhone blue&me adapter but all my music is there and it appears to work just fine. However, the dealer did say they needed to check some 'system code' before proceeding to ensure it would work, so be warned.

Ben, got a slight hitch maybe you can shed some light, when connecting to blue and me, with all the latest updates on iphone now, all of a sudden I am getting an error message with when the USB connects saying its not a recognised charging whatever, so it will play and everything, just won't charge now, only happened this morning... weird?
the USB phone adapter is courtesey of FIAT, but has worked on the phone and charging since I bought the car 9 months ago.

Not a compatible accessory or something like that?
Unplug phone from B&M, turn engine off, take out the B&M dongle.
Turn on phone, wait till booted. Plug in dongle Turn on engine plug in phone.
see how this goes...
Ben.

How often do they bring out new updates, got a new phone (sony xperia s) which is not compatible at the moment, went to take the phone bk 2 days after getting it on a new 2 year contract to change for a phone thats compatible and the manager can't exchange it as it has a tiny chip, that small that the girl that was serving me couldn't even see, but according to the mananger u can feel it if u run ur nail over it >:( so now stuck wiv a new phone thats useless to me when working in the car and can't play music unless blue&me decides to add it to the list of compatible phones :'(

Music will only play in the car if the phone can work in 'disk mode' ie, operate like a USB stick. Same for everything other then iPhones/iPods.
Will it not connect at all with Bluetooth? That sounds more like a phone update is required... Can you even see the blue&me to pair it? Does it work with another phone?
As for blue&me updates. I don't think we will see any now to be honest with v1 blue&me, it's now old tech but who knows?
No way you can pass the chip off as a manufacturing fault?
