Bypassing the terrible Blue and Me System
« on: February 01, 2012, 04:26:08 am »
Hello everyone

I have a 2008 A500 and have tried everything to get the blue and me POS working with my iphone and USB sticks properly, having done all the updates and even buying the iphone adaptor with no result, I decided to bypass the whole system.

To do this I had two choices, to ripout the OEM headunit and render all the steering wheel buttons useless or find a 'piggyback' system that can retain the blue and me while actually be able to play music properly.

I ended up with a parrot MKi9200, been using it for 6 months with no major problem, installing the unit is easy enough and can be done at home, does not need any diagnostic software or factory computer to connect and basically works along sode with the OEM stereo, not effecting it at all. It is also a bluetooth handsfree system and hence can replace all but the radio unction fo the blue and me. but the steering controls will not work for volume or change tracks or the mobile phone, but instead you get a nice dash mounted control which works just as well.

If you are fed up with the blue and e systems on earlier cars, this should be a viable solution! you also get a nice LCD screen to show tracks! unit cost me around 200pounds and i ahd it installed for another 50, so only detriment is the price!

I solved the Blue and Me problems with a lovely sounding exhaust.

Seriously though I was looking to pull out the HU and replace with a Parott Asteroid this Spring.

In our other car we fitted the Asteriod's predecessor and it was the biggest pile of junk. Truly awful radio reception and constant crashes. Luckily we used a reputable fitter and got our money back.

Look at the Parrot forums on the Asteroid before you take the leap. http://forum.parrot.com/english/viewforum.php?id=34 (The forums on our model have been completely removed, I presume because it was so bad)

We replaced it with the original HU and the Mki9200. It has been OK-ish - ie it has only been replaced once.

Parrots look good and appear to answer all of your bluetooth/mp3/iphone needs but the quality just isn't there - BEWARE.

Thanks for that. I know the Asteroid has internet radio and twin analogue tuners but I'll definitely read up first. Thanks.

I had the MKi9200 in Abarth #1, B&M is much more improved that I no longer need it in Abarth #2. :thumb:
