Getting a Pioneer car stereo for my 2009 Abarth 500
« on: December 13, 2017, 12:24:03 pm »
Hi everyone

I have been looking at the Pioneer car stereo's for a while now - http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/car-stereos/pioneer-sph-da120-car-stereo-with-apple-carplay (I think this is the right one - please correct me if I am wrong)
I would really like to get one fitted into my Abarth but does anyone have any reviews on these and are they worth it?
The main reason I would like one is because playing music through my phone is a bit of a ballache at the moment. As mine is a 2009 model it does not have blue&me installed. I have the little blue&me adaptor which plugs into the USB port, then a cable from that plugged into my phone. Sometimes my phone decides it doesn't want to connect to the stereo and the cable is generally just annoying. My main question is does the Pioneer stereo connect to your phone via bluetooth or do you still have to suffer the cable? I notice it says in the description that you need the lighting cable for iPhones but I don't know if that is just for the initial setup?
Any info/opinions anyone can give me on these Pioneer stereo's would be greatly appreciated - they are £350 after all!

Get the newer SPH-DA230 with DAB+. It is the newer version of the 120. I got it in my 2009 Abarth and love the fact that I can stream audio from multiple sources. Tunin Radio Pro, Spotify, Soundcloud, etc etc.

For control through Carplay, you need to be connected by wire, but streaming audio can be done through Bluetooth also. Love it, only fitting a 2-din is quite some work, which i had done.

Sorry for this delayed response but thank you for that!
Playing my music from spotify via bluetooth is the main thing for me, it would makes things a lot easier.
Do you have any photos you could share with me of what it looks like fitted in your Abarth?

This is just after it was fitted. I chose the matt black surround, didn't want the frame to shine too much.

That frame around the radio looks to be a pretty poor fit.
The panel gaps and wonky lines look like its some cheap Chinese rubbish.
