Title: Tomtom blue and me
Post by: Ian hatton on October 17, 2013, 09:30:46 pm
Reading many posts on this subject it's hugely disappointing  that these cars cannot have sat nav like our European friends I've tried to research this and unsurprisingly I've drawn a blank!!! However I bought a tomtom  blue and me on the vain hope it would work but yep you've guessed it......... It wouldn't pair.

The nav works fine and I've downloaded tomtom home and upgraded the blue and me software (nope still won't pair!) and added the Abarth start up screen and several 500 Abarth icons, so I have now resigned myself to this is the best I'm going to do, I thought I would post this if anyone else wanted to download the home tomtom the icon and themes

So you read many threads saying it doesn't work, but got it expecting it to work and now making a thread saying it doesn't work???

Oh my!

I need a sat nav so the reports on tom toms were good so I thought why not, perhaps software updates may be available, I was being slightly flippant, you being so sanctimonious isn't really required is it,

If I remember correctly  Ian, you did get a new car so it should pair.

Hi 124Abarthreplica

Thanks for the post

You're correct I did get a new car but reading through the posts only the Abarth tomtom will pair as (from John the Vospers dealer) there is a line of data that the tomtom either needs or cannot read that prevents pairing it will pair with a fiat 500. I have also downloaded the latest software from tomtom for blue and me and still no luck. I think the blue and me box is different on the Abarth and so even though my car is the latest spec I don't think Abarth has changed any hardware, if anyone else can add to this I would be most grateful

The tomtom is a good product so although I can't have it working as I would like (and I do not use nav that much) it will still do a job

Hi Ian
I don't fully understand what's going on here , normal for my age group :thumbd:

I bought a new Tom Tom 2 Live from Fiat with the option mount for the dash socket on my then new Fiat 500 Twinair over 2 years ago.
They paired fine with all options.
I then bought a new Abarth 500C from John 18 months ago and put the above Tom Tom in the Abarth with a new mount.
After updating to v6 B&M it also pairs perfectly with navigation instructions on the speedo.
Econ meter and fuel con. figures all fine between the units
That was around 12 months ago and it's been fine since.

So what do I have that's different to you?? ???

I'm intrigued

You have me intrigued now Bernie.
As far as I knew only the Abarth branded Tom Tom would pair with an Abarth properly and allow the telemetery to work  ???
You must have a freak of nature.......

Well you must have the only non Abarth working tomtom!! I suppose that you could have purchased an Abarth one without knowing it, I'm now going to try again, I'm assuming since I have a 63 plate the car will have the latest software is there any way to tell??

Just tried to pair it again, no joy, I think  I need Bernie to donate his unique tomtom to me for further testing........possibly on a preeminent basis!!!!!

You are pairing the TT from the B&M icon?

I've also upped to v7 and it still works fine but I have not as yet noticed anything different with v7
Title: Re: Tomtom blue and me
Post by: Ian hatton on October 19, 2013, 04:33:23 pm
Yes I'm going into changes menu, blue and me, try to pair I put in the four digit code but the TT say is bluetooth on

I've downloaded the latest software from TT HOME (I assume it's the latest)  the TT just won't recognise the Abarth blue and me

I've also tried pairing via the Bluetooth option (no joy) but the TT picks up my iphone 5c no problem, you really must have a really rare unit!!!!

HOW TO: PAIR AND SET BLUE&ME TOMTOM2

Turn on your Blue&Me TomTom2 and make the following settings.
- Your language from the displayed list
- lf you want to use the right or left hand
- Unit of measurement (km/miles)
- Map background
- The voice you want
Now you are ready to pair with Blue&Me.

Pairing and connecting.
Three types of integration between car and TomTom2 are available: mechanical, electric and telematic.
.@:plugthesupportprovidedinyourBlue&MeTomTom2boxintothe
connection socket on the pillar or dashboard of the car. This support holds the TomTom2 and
supplies it electrically (with key-on). No external wires are needed.
. p!ge!!g: using Bluetooth technology, TomTom2 can communicate with the onboard Blue&Me
system when the key is on.

Proceed as follow to activate communication:
1. Turn ignition key to the MAR-ON position.
2. Press the MAIN button on the steering wheel to open the Blue&Me home page on the onboard
display of the car.
3. Use the arrow buttons on the steering wheelto go to the settings menu.
4. Select Settings and then Pair User. A 4 digit PIN code will appear on the onboard panel display.
You will be using the PIN at a later stage.
5. Tap on the navigation device display to open the main menu.
6. Tap on Find Blue&Me.
7. Tap on Yes when you are asked whether to start searching for Blue&Me immediately.
8. Enter the Blue&Me PIN in the navigation device. The PIN is the one shown in step 4 above.

A message confirming correct connection will appear on the navigation device and on the onboard panel
display. A confirmation message will appear whenever the Blue&Me TomTom2 device is connected or
disconnected from Blue&Me.

Now on, connection will be established automatically when you turn on your car.
The pairing procedure may need to be repeated in some cases.
Remember that the PIN code changes each time.
lf you want to pair a mobile phone as well, remember than the PIN code provided by Blue&Me will be
different.
You will need to repeat the pairing and connection procedure to connect Blue&Me TomTom2 to another car.

The following appears when it is turned on:

With the device connected, the new "Navigation System" option, will appear in the Blue&Me menu of the
control panel.
For the selections on your TomTom2 you can choose whether to use the touch screen mode or the steering
wheelcontrols.

Steering wheel controls:
o Press the MAIN button on the steering wheel controls

. Using the scroll buttons select > NAVIGATOR > and press OK
o The Main Menu will appear on TomTom2. You can select the various functions directly on the
display using the scroll buttons on the steering wheel both for setting a destination and for
accessingthe CAR MENU.
o You can see the following functions in the CAR MENU:
o Mobile phone: when your mobile phone is paired with Blue&Me, you can scroll the
phonebook and list of last calls and then select a name or enter a new number to make the
call.
o Trip computer: You can see the data of your journeys in the following modes on just one
tt'"ln'rr,o A and Trip B: distance travelled, average fuel consumption, average speed and
traveltime
- lnstant information: instant range and fuel consumption
o Customised vehicle information: eco:Trend info (Lancia), Fuel Efficiency info (Alfa Romeo),
eco:Drive info (Fiat) will help you improve your driving style, telling you when you are using too
much fuel and when to shift gear (function present on Euro5 with Start&Stop)
e Media player: when you have a media player connected to the USB port you can select your music
directly from the TomTom2 touch screen.

You can make the selections just described also with the voice controls.
You can enable the selection with voice commands by pressing the voice interaction button and saying:

o "Navigato/' "Car Menu"
o At this point you can choose between the following functions:
o "Phone"
o 'Trip computer" (see "steering wheel controls")
o "eco:Trend", "eco:Drive" or "Fuel Efficiency" according to the brand of your car
o "Media player" (This function is new and currently being launched according to car version).

Your Blue&Me TomTom2 includes allthe functions of the next-generation TomTom2. To learn more, go to
the Products > What it is/What it offers sections.

Thanks for that, unfortunately once I enter the 4 PIN number it just will not recognise. I've looked at the blue and me site and v7 was July 2013 as my car is sept 2013 I would think its v7 anyway. So I think it's back to the software reading in my earlier post.  I'm trying to see what version I have in the car but I cannot seem to find out how

Assuming the car(s) have the same s/w perhaps we should look at the TTs.

On the bottom of mine is
GO Model 4CS01

Is yours the same?

Your TT is the 'Blue&me Tom Tom 2 LIVE' ?

Unfortunately my TT is just a blue and me, as I've mentioned earlier I think the Abarth branded TT is the only one to talk correctly to the B&M which is a pain, I know you can buy a unit for around £350ish but then you need the sucker kit so it gets close to £400 which I really cannot justify
Title: Re: Tomtom blue and me
Post by: 124Abarthreplica on October 20, 2013, 11:48:58 am
Aha, we have now got to the bottom of it.

Your TT, according to TT website, is based on the Go 950 Live.

Mine is the Fiat supplied B&M TT 2 Live based on the Go 1000 series.

These retail around £300 but I have seen them cheaper and s/h, then you need a 1000 series sucker mount £35 :thumbd:

So I guess it's a step too far unless you sell your existing TT and start over

Thanks for that at last the problem solved!!

I'll keep my eye out for one of those, I can always use the current nav so I don't mind paying for another as long as it will work as it should

I really appreciate your help on this as I know have details of what I need to get the correct unit

Thanks again

Word of warning.
I have had a TT live 2 series 1000 and it would not pair with the car.
Don't rush out and buy the Fiat one thinking it will fix the problem, chances are it wont. I have no idea how Bernie has got his working, must be some sort of glitch in his unit.
The Abarth branded one is still available and will pair with the car.

Right, this is getting stranger by the minute.
I took delivery of 2 Abarth branded TOM Tom 2 live units this morning. Also got the correct sucker mounts for the windscreen (which are great by the way).
Went to pair the unit with an Abarth 500 and it failed to pair. Wiped the cars memory, hot booted the TT and still nothing.
This unit is clearly designed for the Punto (which it works fine with) and not the 500.
This makes Bernie's case even more confusing  ???

John was trying to pair this for me, and as you can see by his post that we drew a blank, I would like to place on the forum what a top bloke john is. He went out of his way to make sure the product was right for me.......sadly not but his time and effort were brilliant.

Many thanks John

If anyone can add any ideas to the pairing issue please post

Many thanks

Ok here goes if you want TT2 to work in the Abarth (series 2 only with the aux plug next to the usb) you must make sure it is flashed with the correct version of Blue&Me.  I have this working on both my old 500 and my 595.

All UK Abarth 500/595 have the non TT2 firmware from the factory as you cannot have the dash port (68R) due to the boost gauge being there.

With the introduction of V7 Blue&Me you cannot manually select the correct version as it will always autoupdate to the non-TT2 version as installed from the factory.

Here is Blue&Me TomTom V7 firmware for 500/595 https://copy.com/OXeeyzot6Hn2gDgO (https://copy.com/OXeeyzot6Hn2gDgO) follow the install instructions and then you will be able to pair it to the car without problems.

It works perfectly and if you have a MTA version you get the directions on the dash speedo too.

Hi Ian

There is a pdf in the zip follow it carefully and all will be improved!  The only tips I can give is that it takes longer than you think and very important wait for her to say 'Update complete' before removing the usb.

Blue&Me is a bit picky on usb drives so if it doesn't work try another stick and another....

Good luck, version 7 it is the best they have produced, voice calls are better they seem to of increased there microphone gain to so no need to shout!

Oh and another, make sure you pair your phone with Blue&me and not the TomTom.

Good luck
Jamie
