Abarth 595 Competizione
« on: November 25, 2017, 10:58:52 pm »
Hi,

I have a 595 Competizione 180. Do you have a box for this car and what kind of results would I expect to get?

Thank you.

David

Since there is no reply here I guess that's a sign I should go for the TMC option!

I’ve just fitted one, and plan on taking some in gear acceleration measurements as soon as I can with/without it connected, it you are interested I’ll let you know the results.

    Im sorry,
I have ongoing issues with notifications from the forum not being delievered to my e-mail. Please do e-mail us or feel free to give us a call on 0191 385 9005 if you aren't getting an answer here.

We have sold quite a few of these recently and are getting nice results. One thing worth bearing in mind is you do need to run the car on V Power or Tesco Momentum to get decent results from the box. The car is already at the limits of 95 RON as standard. I realise most of you wouldn't run 95RON anyway, I just thought it worth mentioning.

    Hi,

Did you manage to log acceleration with and without the box?

Hi, has anyone fitted the bluespark box to the 180 comp?  I haven't seen any feedback on the forums from anyone who has, would be nice to know the realworld difference?

We have had quite a number of people purchase this unit now and get very nice results from it.

We had a customer last week with a 695 Rivale (same engine as the 180 comp). We got absolutely great figures on our dyno using our latest map set. We managed 217.5hp and 313Nm torque, which is a massive difference on this engine.

Why don't you just do it properly, take the car to be mapped by Tony at Tune4Performance - who will dyno the car before & after to ensure it's in rude health (before loading a map that could break something) and to give you a printout of what gains your car has actually realised?

We can dyno the car here too, hence the dyno graph showing before and after figures.

Some people like a remap solution, some people prefer running a box. There are advantages to both, principally if you are under warranty, a box is tracelessly removable whereas a map very much isn't.

Another consideration is that our box can be reprogrammed for your new car, or sold on when you change.

I'm not really sure why you consider one method "doing it properly" and another not. The car made great power, was dyno tested, datalogged, and the box was custom mapped for the specific car. The user also has the aforementioned advantages of the box over the map.

Boxes are not "tracelessly" removed - any view of engine data will show immediately that the car has been used with a tuning box.

I know people who have had warranty work declined due to having previously used a tuning box (which has since been removed)

You said this in another thread, and it still isn't the case. You claim that the ECU will record higher boost, however this is fundamentally untrue.

Here is a log of ECU recorded boost level before and after tuning:

You'll note that it is the same, despite making of 30hp more. Real boost pressure is higher, but the ECU doesn't see this, and thus can't record it.

Wow, that's really good!  Very tempted, after a few months with the stock 180 comp I've gotten used to it now and would like a bit more power - in particular it feels a bit flat higher up the rev range and I like the look of your torque curves.

Why would a dyno tell you if the engine is in good health?  Can it show if parts are prone to fail?

I've heard that remaps can/do get reset during abarth servicing, I quite like the idea of the tuning boxes especially as you can change to different settings as you like.

A dyno won't tell you that you are about to have a major component failure, but it can give you a good idea as to certain problems.

For example if you have a major boost leak, this will usually be relatively obvious during dyno testing.

Generally speaking, it depends strongly from car to car. If you have a vehicle with relatively low miles and it has been looked after then you can usually be fairly confident that it isn't broken. In this circumstance, whilst a dyno test is nice to have, it isn't as neccesary.

Conversely if you have a car with high miles, unknown history and looks like it hasn't been given a lot of love by previous owners then it is worthwhile getting it checked over before tuning.

Of the occasional problems we find with customers vehicles, most of them we discover long before it gets anywhere near the dyno.
