Title: Introduction and Offers for forum members
Post by: edd@bluespark on November 16, 2015, 03:57:24 pm
Hi, My name is Edd. I am pleased to formally introduce forum members to the team here at Bluespark Automotive. We know there has been a lot of discussion of our products here on the forum, and we are pleased to now be sponsoring the forum. We will be offering support right here on the forum, as well as over the phone and via e-mail.

We have just launched the promo code "abarthforum" to use on our website for 20% off our petrol turbo tuning modules.

If anyone has any questions about our products, fitting, or indeed anything else please feel free to ask.

Title: Re: Introduction and Offers for forum members
Post by: edd@bluespark on December 17, 2015, 10:28:40 am
The units on our website are £174.99, however if you use the "ABARTHFORUM" discount code this drops to £139.99. Postage is either £4.50 via Royal Mail first class or £6.50 via Royal Mail Special Delivery.

If you use the vehicle selector on the homepage, you should be taken to the correct page for your vehicle, which shows the available unit and price. The discount code has to be applied after adding the item to your basket.

Any problems don't hesitate to ask.

Best regards,
Edd

Hello.

There's no figures for the 180 comp on the website. Do you know what these are?
Title: Re: Introduction and Offers for forum members
Post by: edd@bluespark on December 27, 2015, 03:54:13 pm
We don't currently have a solution for the 180 Comp. We have tested 2 now, but they run far too lean without increasing fuel. I would strongly advise against fitting any tuning box on this car which doesn't in some way increase fuel accordingly.

We do have something in the works to resolve this problem, but it will be well into the new year before I expect we will have a production version.

Best Regards,
Edd

hello.

what is the difference between these tuning boxes and those cheap ebay things? just concerned about it wearing out engine components.

how does it work?

also is there a graph to show the difference between a 135bhp a500 2010 with and without the box in?

thank you

Quite often the "chips" that are on eBay are resistors, intended to be wired into your car's temperature sensor in order to trick the ECU into believing that the outside air is colder and therefore denser than it truly is. This will usually result in the car running slightly richer under full throttle. These produce little if any power gain on most cars, whilst also negatively impacting fuel economy and reliability.

Our units interface to your car's Boost and MAP sensors. The unit will dynamically modify the pressure signal from these sensors when required. This means that at idle and whilst at cruise the box does not change any values. When at full throttle the box will deliver a dynamically modified (lower) boost pressure value back to the car's ECU. The ECU will in turn change its output to the turbo control valve and hold the wastegate closed for longer until the desired boost pressure has been reached. This increase in boost pressure causes a good increase in power and torque throughout the rev range.

In terms of component wear, the turbo is being pushed a fair bit harder especially on the higher settings, though they can take quite a lot of punishment. I would say that if you drive the car hard with a big boost increase, you shouldn't expect that the turbo will do minicab mileage, but it will last a perfectly reasonable length of time for a performance road car.

Other than the turbo, everything else is under a little more load, but no more so than it would be on a higher output stock vehicle. If you drive the car harder with increased power you can expect to wear out everything from suspension components to tyres to clutches that bit faster. Hopefully that won't come as a surprise to most. I have attached a couple of dyno graphs of A500's with our box fitted. I do have more but not immediately to hand.
I hope this helps,
Best regards,
Edd

I have emailed Greg from this company and found him helpful. On Tuesday evening I spoke to Edd and what a very helpful and knowledgeable guy he is. Despite it almost being their closing time he spent some time going through the information on the tuning box with me and answered all my question which gave me great confidence.
Thanks for your time Edd.

Thanks Ashway, it was nice to talk to you yesterday. If you need any help with setup to get the best from it once you've put a few miles on it please don't hesitate to ask.

In other news, here's a dyno graph from an Abarth Punto EVO 163 with our box fitted. This is on a dyno local to us which always produces very accurate figures.

Hi Jordan,
On a stock vehicle we usually recommend map C, but with mild mods such as a bombardone and/or an induction kit you should also get good results from map D.

Edd

Hey Edd (and those who have fitted one)
I'm very tempted by one of these but I'm also completely useless with tools, diy is my nemesis.
How easy are these to fit ? I live 100 miles away from my "home" so have no access to the mates I used to either

Can a complete dumbass really install one ?

I have build alot of IKEA furniture so I can follow instructions

If you have any problems fitting please don't hesitate to give us a call. As others have said it isn't a difficult install, just a little bit fiddly. There's a lot squeezed into that engine bay so you don't have a lot of room!

Looks like a fault with the unit. Checked everything over and still not right. Plugged the bypass adapter in and she runs fine.
The good news is the 28 returns policy.

Sorry to hear about your trouble buddy. Did you confirm with Bluespark it is faulty.
Title: Re: Introduction and Offers for forum members
Post by: scottchester on March 19, 2016, 10:04:54 pm
I didn't mate, they don't open in weekends.
Something not right and I assume if it had been the wiring that the errors would have been present with the bypass inplace as it uses their loop.
No too fussed, actually enjoyed taking it apart and learning in the process. Never done anything like this with a car before so pretty please with myself, especially getting it working again.
Bluespark seem pretty good so I'm sure a refund won't be an issue.

Worth checking the sensor under the battery is connected properly. Very easy to fit it the wrong way around which would give you the issues you describe, but would still work fine when you plug the bypass in :thumb:
Title: Re: Introduction and Offers for forum members
Post by: scottchester on March 20, 2016, 09:33:33 am
Thanks mate. I double checked that and it was fine. Managed to find a video of someone fitting a tmc box on YouTube and they fitted it the same way too.

Title: Re: Introduction and Offers for forum members
Post by: edd@bluespark on March 21, 2016, 09:18:39 am
Hi there,

From the description of the problem I would also suggest that you check the connector to the MAP sensor plug. You can also fit this upside down. There are red stickers on each connector that say "clip this way up". You must ensure that the clip is on the same side as that sticker. It is very unusual for a box to be faulty, but of course it isn't impossible.

If it doesn't work with the bypass plug, then there is almost 100% a problem with the wiring loom or connections. The opposite isn't always the case though, i.e. if it works fine with the bypass plug it doesn't exclude the wiring loom or points of connection.

There are a couple of other outside possibilities, but if you give us a call on 0191 385 9005 I will happily go through this with you and get to the bottom of the problem.

Best Regards,
Edd

Hi all.
Just wanted to update you on this:
Firstly Edd and Gary at Bluespark were great from the very first interaction to the last.
As you can see from the above I was concerned about my ability to fit this before I ordered it, basically    I was right I am not good with this sort and the failure to get it working as my fault not Bluespark the guys offered to help anf even talk me through it but I declined purely because of the time I'd already invested.

The guys are true to their word.. 28 day no questions asked refund policy is exactly what they said.

In summary you can buy with confidence. these are honest guys who are happy to help and offer an iron clad refund policy

Wanted to clarify this as the above posts from me may be missread as issues from Bluespark when the issues were all me and lack of mechanical prowess

Have these reduced in price? Is the 20% discount still valid for Forum members? .. I looked on your site and see that they are £174.99 for the esseesse but couldn't find a select for the 135bhp model ...... Browsing through eBay I see you have them on there for £149.99 so would the discount be applicable to your eBay ad? Or is it just an offer linked to your website?

Hi,

The discount is still available, it 's applicable to the website only. Please see the attachment with this post to see how to select the product using our vehicle selector.

To access all of the Abarth models on our main page, visit our site. Bluesparkautomotive.com (sorry we cant post external direct links) and using the vehicle selector, please select Abarth, then 500/595 to access all of the vehicles.

I have attached an image to show this.

Please make sure when purchasing that you select Royal Mail Special Delivery postage. The heavy discount on the item enables Royal Mail First Class as an option, however this is an error due to the cost price of the item requiring Special Delivery. If you select First Class your purchase will unfortunately not complete.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to give us a call on 0191 3859005

Hi Jordan,
I'm glad to hear you are getting good results.

For lightly modified cars we usually reccomend setting the unit to map D. The results do vary slightly from car to car, so the best thing to do is just try give it a try and see how it drives.

Thanks to to great product and advice im pleased to say my standard 135bhp and 170 ft-lbs abarth ran well over that today.
Got 167nhp & 211ft-lbs.
The only mods i have done is fit the bluespark, a novitec back back and a bmc pop off valve. I am extremely happy!

Hello! Fitted my bluespark box and i have some questions. The boost reading gauge is still accurate with bluespark? After installing the box it reads 1.3-1.4 under full acceleration in 4th and 5th gear.

When i turn the ignition key without starting the engine the light indicator of bluespark is green. When i start the car it turns blue. That's the normal right?

And finally.. the box arrived with a black bag.Should i put the bluespark box in the bag under the hood when i finish the installation ?  thanx
Title: Re: Introduction and Offers for forum members
Post by: edd@bluespark on July 11, 2016, 03:58:40 pm
Hi there,
The boost gauge is not accurate after fitting the Bluespark unit. It will most of the time read lower than the actual value of boost pressure that you are achieving. This is nothing to worry about, but is unavoidable due to being an electronic gauge that shows the value of boost pressure that the ECU believes to be true.

Those light sequences are quite normal, it will usually change to a blue light as the car is started.

Yes, please use the black bag to cover your unit. This is not necessary but is included to keep the unit clean in an under bonnet environment.

I hope this helps,
Best regards,
Edd

Whilst I very much doubt they have changed anything very significant compared with the 140 model, I don't think we have ever sold a unit for a 145 model. We could ideally do with having a look at the car. Is there any chance that you could come and pay us a visit?

Had a couple of hours with Edd this morning as I thought I had an issue with my boost gauge from purchase. Edd did various diagnostics to the extent of even removing a boost gauge from his own car and fitting it to mine to confirm what boost we were getting. After numerous test runs and trials Edd established we were holding good boost pressure and then did me a tweaked custom map to give me a lot more low down torque. Edd also showed me some of the new stuff he was developing and talked about what is coming in the future. Wow. What a guy, knows his stuff inside out and customer service second to none. If your looking for a more "useable" tune get your order in. Forget the rest and fit the best, fit a Bluespark box and get yourself looked after nothing is too much trouble.
Edd you sir are a genius and a top bloke to boot.
Thanks for your time today.

Hi Edd, I'm looking at buying one of these in a few weeks once my car has been mapped to 160 by the dealership (I've been driving a 140 for months before they'd admit it), £140 for another 12-25bhp is a bargain really.
Anyway, one thing putting me off is that the boost gauge won't read correctly. I presume you do a lot more than just scale the signal by X so I can't just multiply it in my head.

Have you got any plans for a unit that has an output that feeds direct into the gauge with the actual reading from the MAP sensor? I'm presuming the OE gauge doesn't take the same signal but it's probably not rocket surgery to reverse engineer.
I'd probably end up making a little box to do the same myself eventually but I thought it would be worth asking because it's surely crossed your mind at some point?

I'd probably end up making a little box to do the same myself eventually but I thought it would be worth asking because it's surely crossed your mind at some point?

Hi Dave,
You are correct that the boost gauge will not take the same signal as the tuning box. The boost gauge will be fed a signal from the ECU directly. I haven't looked into it, but I imagine it will actually be quite a difficult signal to change (its probably a CAN signal).

The thing is that getting in and out of lots of Abarths, what I notice is that the accuracy of the stock gauges is massively inconsistent. Sometimes the gauge will match the values shown on diagnostic equipment, sometimes it will vary by as much as 0.2 Bar either way.

Ultimately there are probably two solutions:

- Solution 1: Accept that the boost gauge is not particularly accurate in the first place, definitely not right with the box installed and not to pay it too much attention.

- Solution 2: Replace it with a nice accurate aftermarket gauge. This would probably be cheaper, and almost certainly would be better than making a unit to recieve signal and drive the existing gauge.

Best regards,
Edd

Hi Edd,

I just bought a 2011 A500c with 140BHP and I would like to put in the bluespark, but I'm not sure did the car did any remap yet?
How can I find it out?

Hi there,
If you are curious as to whether the car has been remapped you could take it to a rolling road dyno and check?

Is there anyway that I can check it myself? I think the checking fee will cost more than bluespark :-[

You can always try comparing your 0-60 times against stock 0-60 times? or use a diagnostic tool and see what boost pressure you are making?

Unfortunately we have had several hurdles in getting this sorted. Mostly that I have had very little time to spend on it. I have purchased a car for development of this so we will get it cracked, it is just taking more time than we had anticipated.

Hi Edd, I finally got my car remapped by the dealers and TBH I'm happy with the power as it is for now. However I was talking about your tuning boxes with a bloke I bumped into through work who's got more or less the same car as me - his is a 2016 160bhp, I presume a turismo
He's interested in a tuning box but he wanted to know what sensors it plugs into - He raised a good point which is how do you add fuel to suit the increased boost if the ECU sees the same lower pressure?

Hi Edd,

Today I just drive my friend's A500 135hp with bluespark and it feel great! I was driving a 500c 140hp and thinking to install one too, but mine was MTA and his was manual. And I want to know how it work in a MTA. So can I install my friend's tuning box to try it first before I buy one, also my one was 140hp and his was 135hp, are you comaptible?

Thanks

Hi Edd,
I have been looking at various tuning boxes across different brands and your blue spark box is one that I see is well recommended.
I was wondering if you had any performance figures for the Abarth 124 Spider fitted with your box?
Bhp?
Nm ft-lbs?
0-60 times?

Is there any evidence in reduction of turbo lag and increase throttle response with your box?
 Thanks

Hi,

I have a 2009 Esseesse.  How do I know which box I need as there are 2 listed on your website.  The ID numbers are 64968 and 64973.

Also your Ebay price is £139.99 delivered.  Is there any advantage in ordering via the Owners Club discount on your website?

Thanks

Yes, but 20% from £175 is £140 plus £6.50 delivery. It's £140 on Ebay but on Ebay you get free delivery.

I'm very sorry guys, my e-mail notifications haven't been working, so I hadn't realised there had been replies here.

I'll try and reply to what hasn't been answered, but if there is anything anyone else would like to know, please either ask on here, or give us a call.

This was a mistake with eBay pricing. We had an offer on our CR Tech 2 product (for Diesel engines) and the Abarth unit ended up getting the price drop too. It is back on eBay at £149.99. As well as this with eBay although the postage is "free", it is just bog standard Royal Mail, whereas through our website it goes Royal Mail Special Delivery, which is an insured, tracked, next day delivery service.

If you have a look at: http://bluesparkautomotive.com/abarth-124-spider we have the power and torque figures available. If you could come and pay us a visit, I could dyno your car and most likely improve on these figures a touch.

We don't quote 0-60 times, as these are very variable from driver to driver. Ballpark though I would expect 0-60 to drop by around half a second

Hello Edd, I have a 2017 595 Turismo 165HP and I updated the front with all components of the 180HP Competizione. Brakes, suspension, wheels. I also got an Akrapovic exhaust. The next issue is the power upgrade to at least match the Competizione 180HP. Your ship caught my attention and I have a question before I engage;
Is it true that if we use anything but ABARTH FLASH TOOL we will lose our warranty?

Hi all.

Some of you might remember my posts regarding the Bluespark box that I had purchased for my Series 4 Turismo 165 back in July - August.

At the time Bluespark listed at their website power figures with the box of 172 bhp / 300 NM for my car.

To be honest, no matter what setting I tried, I was certain that there was no way the box could have given my car gains of 70 NM (stock figures are quoted at 165 bhp / 230 NM). I even posted at a thread here complaining  about the poor performance of the box on my car. Max gains could not have been more than 15-20NM, I was sure. There was some performance gain but not that impressive.

Well around 2-3 weeks ago I came across a post on FB where there was a guy who posted a dyno sheet of 192 BHP / 285 NM using the Bluespark box on his Turismo 165. I also checked the Bluespark website and found out that the power figures for the 165 Turismo had been updated to 195 bhp / 300 NM. So I decided to email Bluespark.

A really professional and stand up guy named Edd replied to all my emails. He explained that there was a version 2 of the maps on the box for the S4 Turismo and offered to update my box to the new map set FREE OF CHARGE if I ever wanted. We exchanged a few more emails where I also asked about the newly advertised 3 channel box for the S4 Competizione which he reassured me I did not need, and for the possibility for a stronger map if I wanted to add a cold air intake and a sports cat on my car.

Well a week later my box was off the car and on its way back to England to Bluespark. No more than 6 days later (yesterday afternoon) it was back to me updated FREE OF CHARGE, NOT EVEN A CHARGE FOR POSTAGE.

So first thing this morning it was on the car and off I went to work. Due to traffic I did not get to open up the car but I was sure that there was a different feel to the throttle responce. Come lunch time my itch to properly try the box grew. So I skipped lunch and went for a test drive on a B road near my work. Despite being a very hot day here (29C), I was quite surprised from the performance. This version of the maps feels a lot stronger than the previous one. There is a noticeable power improvement. I have only driven the car 25 miles since the install, but there is definitely an improvement of at least 15 bhp / 30 NM over stock and I am hoping this will improve with more miles in.

All in all I am really happy with my purchase now, and really glad there are people like Edd in this kind of business.

Hi there, as with the above post, you can fit our box and achieve power and torque in excess of what you would see on a stock 180 model. When fitting our box, the ECU remains unmodified. Flash values are not changed, so as long as you remove the box before taking it to Abarth for service, you should not have any issue with warranty :)

Hi Edd
I have a 135hp 2012 Abarth and have been running your box of tricks for over a year now on it’s middle setting - incredible difference and I love how the car goes. I’m thinking about getting a sports cat and Supersprint exhaust to improve things a bit more - will the box still work ok or will it need a different map to cope with the change of exhaust and cat?
Cheers!

Hi Andy,
The box will work absolutely fine with an exhaust change and sports cat. So long as you are happy to run 99 RON fuel you will be able to get even higher gains by changing to either map D or E.

Edd

Hi Edd,

Is this the same with the 3-channel box for the 180? If using Tesco 99 octane, is a different setting possible too?

Whilst I think this has been answered elsewhere, I will just clear it up for clarity's sake.

On the 180 unit I would reccomend leaving the settings as they are. We are getting really awesome results from the stock settings now. Here's an example:

Yes of course, we include a bypass plug as standard.

We also offer an optional extension loom, so that you can remove the entoire wiring loom for service, without having to remove the battery.

Hi,

Just recently bought a standard 2014 135hp Abarth and looking to install Bluespark unit.
Just a couple of questions :

1. Is the forum discount still available ?

2. Will I have to run it on premium fuel ?

3. Is the standard gearbox / engine OK with nearly 100 more torques ?

4. Are insurance companies OK with these mods ?

Thanks

Steve

Hi stevie43uk, welcome to the forum :thumb:

Yes to the discount.

Best to have a word with Bluespark by email regarding Q2 & Q3.

Afraid to say again but best to ask your insurance provider, some do and some don't :thumbd:
