Abarth Record Monza 1000 Bialbero
« on: August 05, 2015, 08:51:25 am »
Just starting rebuild/restoration here in New Zealand. This is an early (pre front radiator) RM 1000. You can see that there is auxiliary cooling from the front, as well as some after thought front scoops, not entirely successful given that there is evidence of a head gasket repair. I have the reg docs from new and some further reg renewals and a couple of hill climb entries from 1978. It raced with some success in 1981 at Monza and then in a number of other events and hill climbs.

There is what appears to be an original extinguisher fitment in the passenger footwell which I haven't seen on other Bialberos, as well as period race/bucket seats, where the driver's side seat does not 'tilt".

There is also a small chin spoiler and I heard that the open headlight early cars had some front end lift problems at speed. Interested to hear what anyone might know about what might have been fitted to the exhausts from the photo. There are also two small brackets on the inside of the exhaust under the car but I cannot work out what might have been there. The whole assembly appears original right down to the Ferrari exhaust hangers.

The car appears complete and original in most important respects but it is going to need a total going over.

Happy to hear constructive input from the forum, and I have learned  lot already from some comments here.

Thanks

John

John I'm afraid I can't assist with any technical input but your car is stunning.

Good for you for putting in the effort to get her back in prime condition. Would love to see more pictures as you progress.
