And another, thanks for posting this, made me a bit more at ease knowing Angie has a proper wheel in the boot rather than a can of slime
I've also now got 2 screwdrivers for taking the nut covers off, with heat shrink tubing on the shaft to stop it marring the alloy and the longer towing eye

I've previously been ambivalent about this but at my last puncture the RAC man wouldn't recover me the 60 miles or so back home. I got taken to a tyre place where I had to wait ages to have a budget tyre fitted that I didn't want.

I could have pursued this solution for less money.

Just as a side note, space savers should only be fitted to back wheels anyway (especially on FWD cars) due to the forces on the front wheels/tyres during cornering, the tread width is not etiquette for this so if a front wheel is flat, it should be swapped for a front anyway (difficult I know with just a jack).

Like the guide and would be useful for a large portion of owners!

I went down the spare wheel route, after a great deal of research and searching, I found that a space saver wheel off the Fiat coupe 20v fits both front and rear of 500, not sure about  Brembo break upgrade, but if someone has it, they can borrow my wheel and try it?

The jack came from a Abarth Punto (all parts sourced Ebay/Fiat), what you will also need is some extended wheel bolts to reach through the space saver wheel as the coupe spare has a built in spacer to clear its calipers, thus fitting front and rear 500's. I can measure up the spacer thickness, and also the length of wheel /bolts. (I had to machine the bolts to suit our 500c, the advantage of being an engineer, cannot remember sizes as did this 3 years ago)

What you will need though, is to change the Tyre to a 125/70 r16 on the coupe wheel it was a 125/80 r16 tyre on the wheel I sourced. (The tyre was the most expensive item at about £80 if I remember correctly.)
The tyre needs changing to give the correct rolling diameter or as near as you can get.

The jack, I modified the nut so that it cleared the skirts, and you then you can get a socket on the jack and reduce the risk of catching your paint work.

I can take some pictures and post if people wish?

Hope this is of interest and helpful.

Just ordered everything from ebay exactly as op suggested. Used (but never used) Fiat spacesaver 135/80/14 @ £19.99 (free delivery), Brand new OEM jack kit and polystyrene insert (for Punto) @ £32 inc shipping (there were some cheaper but all were "used" kits) and as it is for a new Abarth, did not want anything that was not new. Finally, ice hockey puck @ £3. So all in a total of £55.

So glad I read this post as did not think a space saver was an option.

    Feel a lot happier now.

Anyone know if the standard Abarth wheel nuts are OK with the space-saver (length wise)?

Reason I ask is that the thickness on the alloy where the bolts pass through, is thicker than on the space-saver, and thought that maybe the bolts will be a tad too long?

    Thanks.

Excellent solution for a spacesaver wheel.
Just completed everything as stated and double checked everything too, and it all works perfectly.
Thanks for a great and cheap solution.

Great guide! Ordered the parts a while ago. I don't want to mess around with the compressor and the goo when I have a flat.

One point of attention: If you have the Beats audio system, don't expect to put the spacesaver in its intended place, the subwoofer is already there.

This thread has been extremely helpful. I do have a question. Does anyone know what the depth or best Rubber Jack pad would fit an Abarth 500?

    Thanks
