For anyone with Boost Pod wierdness (erratic or failed boost readings, loss of illumination etc), it is likely to be a connection issue. Here is how I fixed mine:

1. Remove the radio: Take out the 4 blank quadrants from around the circular control buttons (I used my thumbnail but a guitar plectrum or carefully applied small screwdriver will work too), insert a pair of removal tools (available on eBay / Amazon etc), slide the radio out, and release the clips so you can unplug the connectors on the back of the radio, including the aerial (be careful not to scratch the dashboard).

2. Remove the blower vents: there are two silver cross-head screwes, one on each side, above the radio cradle. Remove these (being careful not to drop them) and gently pull the vents out (there are clips at the top that will release as you pull).

3. Clean the Pod Connection: Follow the wire from under the pod and you will find a white 3-pin connector that joins the pod to the loom. Release this (push-in clip on the Pod side of the plug) and separate the plug/socket. Spray liberally with Electrical Contact Cleaner (eBay of Amazon again) and plug/unplug the connectors a few times to help clean of the pins, then push the connectors together properly and test. If it doesn't work first time, repeat step 3 again.

That is what worked for me. I didn't even end up fitting the new Pod I bought. So, if it turns out your pod is actually knackered, I have a good one you can have at a reasonable price....
