Well the Beausire family have all probablly got one each (the people that own Le Mont Saint Garage - the Abarth franchise)

On the Isle of Gurnsey there are 2 dealers Polar Auto Italia and a service agent Bel Royal Motors amazing eh considering the lack of cover in mainland UK!

The Channel Isles are used for certain perposes by manufacturers to assist in the registration acheivements Spellbound Holdings for those that know what im talking about!!!!

A quick post as i am very busy currently so can't comment today other than to say that the UK is the NO 1 Abarth market outside of Italy. Germany has only registered 211 A500 to the end of Apl.

Model                January 2010    February 2010   March 2010    April 2010         YTD
    AGP                         2                      3                30                 3                38
    A500                      66                    30               257               132              485

    Total                      68                    33               287               135              523

The A500 must have exceeded UK expectations but from the AGP data, it does beg the question of the brand being transportable to other models. :-\

It certainly doesn't help that we've known about the AGP's replacement since late last year.

As Alex has quite rightly commented and i have in earlier posts this is the crux of the AGP issue
    https://www.abarthforum.co.uk/general-abarth/abarth-registration-data/msg49717/#msg49717

As a very niche product the customers are going to be very knowledgeable and the issue for the new one which has been many time on the forum and in the press concerning the Fiat model from which the Abarth is derivied is the 'look' so it is a weigh up of that against the Multi Air etc to be found in the new offering.

I am unable to comment to much on the AGP issue. I can put an annaolgy and that a certain manufacture had cars of a similar size and a little business unit called AVO and sold as ROAD cars (and that is the VERY important bit) versions Twin Cam, RS 1600 which used the same Type 49 shell as the Mexico. I trust those that understand what i am talking about here will get the jist.

I presume I'm not alone in almost exclusively associating the Abarth brand with the 500s of the 60's and 70's.
I probably wouldn't have bought anything else with an Abarth badge on it, so just wondered what the brands expectations were on their ability to effectively market new models based on anything other than the 500 and its possible variants.
Surely it cannot be economic for Fiat to maintain a brand based on the price/volumes of the AGP (before the new model announcement or otherwise)?

The AGP does very well in other markets.  In my personal opinion, however, in the UK it inherits too much 'baggage' from it's Fiat brother.

I am one of the few on this forum old enough to have followed and supported Abarth racing exploits back in their heyday. However I do not associate today's branding and cars with those days though there are many that do. It is relatively easy to market the modern 500 as a descendant of the original and attach some of the marque's racing heritage to the brand but more difficult with the GPA. The latter doubtless has to carry the baggage of the poor reputation of Fiat and their dealers in this country. In my opinion the GPA is a good, likeable car but is up against some stiff competition in its price sector.

Although the IRC is getting some exposure on Eurosport, there is no real sporting cachet attached to the GPA and, compared to the competition, it is quite pricey for what is, on paper, a relatively average technical spec.

I doubt that the new model will attract a greater proportion of buyers, it is hardly better looking or value. Plus, there are few dealers and the fact they are located at Fiat dealer premises is hardly likely to allay any worries on the part of prospective purchasers.

I myself said that I would never buy another Fiat after the problems with Fiat dealers and a brand new Barchetta. It was only the fact that one of those dealers offered me a damn good price to take the thing off my hands that persuaded my to buy the GPA. At least, thus far, it has proved to be a reliable, fun car and thankfully Autoworld have been equally good.

I have been perceived in the past as anti Abarth and anti forum. Neither of those is the case. I don't see the brand through rose-tinted glasses like so many and hate marketing bullsh!t though am resigned to its necessity in today's world.

Well from a statoholic perspective yes it does. As usual Italy is numero uno but YTD the GPA in the Italian market is well down on YTD 2009 (which was greater than 500 units) but the Italians are well aware of the new model and doubtless is having an effect on reg #'s currently. Germany is #2 for the GPA but appears to have the same Model Revision anticipation influence on registrations with YTD not yet over a ton. Greece is a very good market for the GPA also which given the economic problems that exist there is very interesting.

In terms of baggage im sure that most of us can aggree that the Abarth dealers in the UK are premier league FGA dealers but that is for other threads. It is good to hear of AnonAbarths satisfaction with Autoworld.

Well here we go statoholics here is the May 10 data

    Model   Jan 10   Feb 10   Mar 10   Apr 10   May 10      YTD

    AGP   2   3   30   3   3      41
    A500   66   30   257   132   89      574

    Total   68   33   287   135   92      615

I can tell you that if you have a 2010 registered RED AGP you have a very rare car as there are only 9 of these and none have been registered in April and May.

In terms of A500 dont go for WHITE if you want exclusivity and in fact BLACK in 5 months YTD has matched 70% of Total 2009 registrations. RED well 100 A500's were registered in 2009 and to the end of May 10 there have been 88 registered so in 2010 GREY is the exclusive colour which i'm more than happy about.
