Fiat 124 spied testing...
« on: June 26, 2015, 12:27:09 am »
This is really heavily disguised.  But it's looking very retro in it's styling! Love the long bonnet.

If it looks anything like that, minus the front as it isn't very 'Abarth' it will be a big seller I reckon.

I know it's Auto Express but still, nice little update on the 124, like the rear of ther artist impression drawing, think the front is horrible though!

Now I prefer the front of this one. Looks similar to the look of the Ferrari California with the air scoop. The back is very nice.

From what I read, the Fiat version will have the 1.4 MA engine (135 to 180bhp) and the Abarth version a detuned 4C unit of 200bhp with TCT.

Reported to make an appearance at the LA motor show this autumn or Frankfurt next spring.

    Cannot wait much longer.

    I like this part...

“We went too far with the Punto Abarth – the Punto is a family car and the Abarth version was seen as a bit of a stretch. I stopped production of it 15 months ago because it was not targeted at the true Abarth customer – an Abarth has to be something special and a family car cannot offer this.”

Hope Lloyd doesn't read this!  :bat:

This does suggest that the Abarth 500X won't be on the cards otherwise that statement would be a bit hypocritical...

the 500 is a family car too ???

I like the idea of an Abarth Roadster, my MX5 is pretty good, I do wonder what it would be like with a nice turbo engine in, would it be better or worse, one of the positives of the 5 experience is the broad rev range and response from its NA engine, useful till past 7k, a lagging turbo motor running out of puff at 6k might take the edge off the roadster experience.

Time will tell, a car like this will sell on looks alone, lets hope it is better than the renders, Mazda did a cracking job, you'd expect the Italians to do it better.

The 500 certainly isn't a family car in no way, shape or form... it is a city car that realistically can only seat 2 people comfortably and there is no arguing that really... the statement certainly seems to shoot down any speculation of a 500x Abarth anyway.
