Ha ha ha!
There I laughed, better? lol.
Actually, saw this the other day, nice render, seems to fit the disguised one's profile...... (http://www.tuningblog.eu/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/01-ABARTH-124-SPIDER-1.jpg)

If it looks anything like that, minus the front as it isn't very 'Abarth' it will be a big seller I reckon.

I know it's Auto Express but still, nice little update on the 124, like the rear of ther artist impression drawing, think the front is horrible though!

Now I prefer the front of this one. Looks similar to the look of the Ferrari California with the air scoop. The back is very nice.

From what I read, the Fiat version will have the 1.4 MA engine (135 to 180bhp) and the Abarth version a detuned 4C unit of 200bhp with TCT.
Reported to make an appearance at the LA motor show this autumn or Frankfurt next spring.
Cannot wait much longer.

I like this part...
“We went too far with the Punto Abarth – the Punto is a family car and the Abarth version was seen as a bit of a stretch. I stopped production of it 15 months ago because it was not targeted at the true Abarth customer – an Abarth has to be something special and a family car cannot offer this.”
Hope Lloyd doesn't read this! :bat:
This does suggest that the Abarth 500X won't be on the cards otherwise that statement would be a bit hypocritical...

the 500 is a family car too ???
I like the idea of an Abarth Roadster, my MX5 is pretty good, I do wonder what it would be like with a nice turbo engine in, would it be better or worse, one of the positives of the 5 experience is the broad rev range and response from its NA engine, useful till past 7k, a lagging turbo motor running out of puff at 6k might take the edge off the roadster experience.
Time will tell, a car like this will sell on looks alone, lets hope it is better than the renders, Mazda did a cracking job, you'd expect the Italians to do it better.

The 500 certainly isn't a family car in no way, shape or form... it is a city car that realistically can only seat 2 people comfortably and there is no arguing that really... the statement certainly seems to shoot down any speculation of a 500x Abarth anyway.

It's a shame as the 500X would make an awesome Abarth - great car :D

not keen on the 124 & the Abarth version at all, and i don't get how they can say an Abarth has to be something "special" then pretty much dress up an mazda MX-5 when all past Abarth were genuine Fiats :(

I just hope that they have sorted the sill problem out.
I had several MX5s before switching to Fiat and Abarth. Each one had sill problems, one with the sills starting to rot when only 4 years old, but as Mazda judged it not to be from the inside out they refused to cover it within the warranty. And this is that despite a rigorous attention to detail in keeping the drainage holes clear etc.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the MX5s, balance, handling and ride quality are superb, but I got totally fed up with the additional cost of rust damage to sills.

This is from an official Fiat release apparently Porthos. Was released through facebook on the Italian Fiat page as part of a brochure for the 124... might find this is a very close representation of what we can expect ;) (Hopefully!)
Title: Re: Fiat 124 spied testing...
Post by: PORTHOS on November 05, 2015, 01:29:08 pm
I think it's far too early for any actual Brochures, plus that has no side indicators, the real one is pictured here:
Exhausts are lower, bumper doesn't cut so low in the real one, side indicators on wings etc etc.
It is close though, but I work with Photoshop and I'm telling you if thats from a brochure then I'll eat my hat because the reflection of those wheels is, TERRIBLE, ha ha. Rear wheel reflection has no tread apparently..... And Brembos!? On the Fiat version!?

Here you go Brian, made an animated gif using the 'official fiat' pic and an autoexpress mockup, shows you they are the same picture both manipulated in photoshop to appear different. Notice the interior matches perfectly and a few other bits like the tyres being in the exact same location and floor markings/shadows under the car etc.
I do this sort of thing every day for a living so trust me when I tell you something is photoshop :)
In fact here is my own photoshop I made a while ago now.... (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VwPl-xQVfog/VMzmz3G2cQI/AAAAAAAAQGc/MiDA7pHAWTU/s800-Ic42/2016-Abarth-quarter2.jpg)
For anyone interested or who hasn't seen these all over the internet yet, these are the official Fiat pics so far........

I think the orange one of the cover will be close o the real thing because if you compare it to these spy shots the similaritys on the front are very close ,lights and front grill, wheels, fake chrome windscreen surround and same indicators.

I love it :) It's a lot more 'butch' than the MX5, pleased they interior is basically the same, it's actually a REALLY nice place to be. Let's not forget, this is the Fiat version, the Abarth should be a lot more aggressive in styling.
Title: Re: Fiat 124 spied testing...
Post by: AdamAbarth on November 18, 2015, 10:23:17 am
Not for me I'm afraid. The back looks more like the rear of the old MX5 and the rear fog light looks like an afterthought. I was never in the market for one but I was hoping for something that really stood out more. The front LED's look cheap, would have looked so much better as one fluid tube rather than broken sections like on the new 500.
It's all subjective but I hope the Abarth version makes enough changes to make me feel differently.
Here it is in blue.

I love it in all those pictures! the back lights, the bulges on the bonnet, the front grill all look great.
but on the blue one I aint keen on ..side looks plain.
I am the same, the studio shots look a little 'bland'. Certain colours suit different cars, I'm not sure the blue there suits it but I believe that is for a limited launch edition, looks mighty similar to the fiat 500 in this colour:

yea I think the blue makes the back quarter panel look too high/plain?
the tan seats on blue look great but on the picture blue doesnt work.
I say good job fiat...maby could of doe abit more to the side..it doesn't seem to be a sport variant buti guess theyl leave that to later on just leave the sport side of things to abarth.
cant wait to see this in the flesh and if the fiat version looks like this then bring on the abarth :D

I can see where the styling comes from, definitely DODGE..... My example here, ha ha.... I'm a Dodge Viper Fan Boy so it's nice to see a much more masculine looking car in the 124, but still love the MX-5.
My question is - why the hell does the EU spec only get 140hp?? Even though it is using the Multiair as well.
I really don't understand. That likely means that we'll get the 140hp spec in AU as well.
Because if it had 200bhp then the "Abarth engineers" will need to extract even more to make it a competitive product thus creating significant cost, reliability, engine choice and type approval issues and more than likely price its self out of what is already a reasonably neiche market...

I'm talking about the differences between the US spec and EU spec 124 - the US gets 160hp, EU gets 140hp?? But they're both Multiair engines. Very weird.

I am sure it is to do with bigger longer roads, Europe in comparison is filled with twisty short roads. We concentrate more on handling, they tend to concentrate more on straight line power.

Have to agree it's a bit strange. Same story initially with the 500 as well though if you remember back. There standard A500 came with 160 bhp, ours only came with 135-140 bhp and you had to go Turismo/Competizione spec for the same power. Looks like the 124 spider will be the same, possibly have 2 choices of engine spec over here though maybe, although I doubt it. The 140 bhp here is to make the Abarth variant with 170 bhp look more performance based I think.
A jump of 30 bhp looks a lot better than a jump of 10...

Although the Evo MA Supersport tops at 180 so I suspect the Abarth 124 MA will start at that figure.

I don't think they will throw out the full power they can achieve right away. Likely be a sort of esseesse style kit etc/ Here is hoping 200bhp is he sort of power to aspire too.

Actually normal Euro Abarth is Fiat 500 Sport in US. And they have Multiair.
