So it's almost time for me to give back my A500 after 3.5 awesome years of driving, and I contacted Glyn Hopkin to ask about the GFV, process, dates etc.

I get a few calls during work which I can't take, followed by an email entitled 'upgrade' talking about the great deals they have for new Abarths, i.e. completely ignoring my original request.

I politely reply saying that I won't be keeping the car and repeating my original query, and then the sales rep replies saying he'll get me the details the next day.
After almost a week and lots of chasing, nothing heard back - this is really poor service!

I get that it's a hard market, but I was a loyal customer and expected better service tbh, had they given me a proper response (or at least stuck to their promises) I would have considered looking at other cars they offer, but I'll steer clear now. I bought the car through PCP and I have paperwork somewhere, but following a house move I figured it'd be easier just to get the info from the dealer.

What's the best way of getting this info since they don't seem intent on actually helping me?

    I have bought three cars off them ,no more there after sales is crap .I doubt i ever buy another abarth again because off glyn hopkins .waited about three months to get a refund of less than thirteen pounds had to get in touch with abarth to help me get it back .Took a wheel back because of the lacquer lifting we give you a call back to tell you the outcome that was over a week ago

    It's not the dealers that deal with final arrangements regarding PCP (they are just brokers) if you are handing it back or plan to pay the GFV,  it's the finance company you need to contact.

    There are three routes when it comes to the end of a PCP deal.

    Hand it back to the finance company.
    You need to give them a few weeks notice before the GFV is due and arrange (and pay) for the collection of the car.
    They will inspect it against BVRLA's wear and tear guidelines
    Any work to bring it to that condition they will bill you for.
    It needs to be within or very very close to the agreed mileage on your contract or they will also bill you for that as well.
    If all is good, that's it, you just walk away even if there's more or less deprecation than the GFV.

    Pay the GFV and keep the car.
    Pretty straightforward, cough up the GFV to the finance company and it's yours.
    Do nothing and they will attempt to take the GFV on the last payment date (it's in your agreement), if you have the money or not.

    Trade it in for a new car. (this is what Glyn Hopkins thinks you are asking)
    This isn't really anything to do with the finance company themselves, but a deal between you and the dealer, you obviously need to sort this out well before you PCP deal is due to end.
    It doesn't even need to be an Abarth dealer, all dealers should be able to do this for you.

    What you hope is the dealer will offer a bigger trade in offer than the GFV to get your custom.
    (this is the way you will benefit from any possible equity in the car)
    If they do they will then pay the GFV to the finance company on reciept of your car and use the difference towards a deposit on your next car, no matter how you pay for it.

    Bugger, I missed an option, though it is quite rare.

    Sell the dealer your car.
    They might, if you're a good customer and want to help you out and need used stock and your deal is still running, buy your car off you and settle the finance on it.

    I did this a few years ago when my circumstances changed dramatically, but it wasn't the best way to finish the deal and the dealer principal wasn't at all keen until they realised I bought my last 5 cars from them.
