I bought some high performance headlight bulbs for my previous Punto Mk 3 but had to take em back to Halfords cos I couldn't get the old ones out ! The main problem, apart from access was that the 3 pin connectors just didn't want to disconnect from the back of the bulb. Couldn't use too much force for fear of breaking anything so, in the end, just had to leave the old ones in. On the Punto you had 2 seperate bulbs, and I think that when you selected main beam, both bulbs were on - it was pretty bright. With the GPA, when you put main beam on, the light is actually less powerful than on dip. Suppose this is the problem with a dual filament bulb - you can't have both on at the same time.

Even though I failed last time, I fancy another go at uprating my headlamps. I've been having a look at various websites, particularly Autoexpress, where they do these comarison tests. In the blurb, it says when you change bulbs you need to get your headlamps realigned. Anybody found this neccessary in practice ? Also, I'm not really sure whether to go for plus 30 or plus 50 bulbs. Are there any technical problems using the brighter ones ? Are these what other owners would recommend ? I just want a nice bright beam pattern so I can see where I'm going at night. Don't want any fancy " boy racer " stuff. So, what's the general recommendation for the best H4 and sidelight replacements ?
