Abarth GP exhaust and cat compatibility
« on: April 10, 2009, 09:27:54 am »
Hi folks,

I just replaced the exhaust system on my Abarth GP and would like to know if the standard Abarth exhaust (+ cat) fit the ordinary GP? Thanx for replies!

have you replaced the manifold as well? im sure this is different from the fiat gp....

i know the back box needs a pipe enlarger on it to fit, i dont know what it will be like coming out of the manafold though if you havnt replaced it.

what exhaust system have you gone for then!?

No, the manifold will remain the same afaik (picking the car up today)...I was more concerned about the curving of the whole system - will check that out.

I went for a custom made one (made by people that work in Ferrari Maserati garage) - was said to be excellent in terms of quality and performance (hi-flow cat too). I'll post pics and video tomorrow - stay tuned ;)

    Thnx for answer!

It should fit a Tjet fine but that will be the only model i think. The backbox will hang pretty low down aswell on a standard GP as the hangers are different on the AGP.

Well, I got it - its not what I expected tbh...they just replaced the back of the exhaust and reworked the existing cat :/

But boy does it sound nice! and the rear pipes look stunning - I was told that it's better to remake the cat than use the aftermarket one. So whats the result?

Well, sound is the first noticeable difference for sure...it pulls better too, but considerably better from 4K rpm on. They also managed to straighten the power curve so the car pulls nicely up to 6000 without that drop. At first it didn't seem that faster because there was no "kick" but after watching the speedo for some time I realised it does go better! 6th gear @ 150 km/h now seems more like 5th before. I'm not sure it produces 184 BHP tho (i'm getting the graphs soon) but it feels better tha before - the exhaust also makes nice "popping" sounds when changeing the gear :P

    Pics and video follow!
