Title: Air Filters / Induction kits
Post by: fishbone on June 06, 2009, 03:13:03 pm
Hmm.... which should I get????

I dunno whether to go for just an improved air filter or go for an induction kit... Its not the looks I am going for, but the (small) performance advantage!

I had a full induction kit on a previous car but it sounded too much like a boy racer car!! Anyone got any ideas?!

I like the look of the 'forge' induction kit mentioned elsewhere on here!

iv just fitted an induction kit from forge motorsport today. if your after one thats quiet then dont go for this one. if you search iv'e posted about the GSR induction kit and my thoughts towards that company. Im not aware that there is much out there tbh. I ordered a BMC CDA kit months ago from Germany only to find it does not fit the RHD cars!....

If the GSR kit was easy to get hold of I think I would give one a try but I can't be doing with waiting for months on end so I think the Forge one is the only option.  There doesn't seem to be much choice at the moment.

Has anyone managed to get a GSR kit for an AGP yet?????

I've always said good things about GSR after having one on the panda, that said, he's a hard guy to get hold of, the forge kit looks a bit too bling IMO but I've yet to hear it :)

I am getting red hoses off him for the rest of my engine bay so i am getting a Red Induction off him to match the rest of the hoses.

Ok, one question about the induction kits - can someone please explain to me, why would anyone want to install that on a turbo engine? Afaik the air, that the turbo compresses gets hot no matter how cold it comes to the turbo? So whats the use really?

I fitted the Forge induction kit to mine to replace the standard air filter which had started to distort, it is also less restrictive than the standard airbox. This kit also has a metal intake hose as part of the filter housing, replacing the existing plastic intake which eliminates any potential air flow restriction caused by the hose walls being sucked inwards by the turbo. The heat sheilding around the filter is also very effective, thus keeping the air intake temperatures lower. I have so far found that the induction kit combined with the larger intercooler has lead to a small gain in performance, and improved fuel consumption with on average an increase of approx 2mpg.
