BMC CDA - the review
« on: February 21, 2009, 01:38:40 pm »
right!, firstly I need something confirming for me before I make a complaint to BMC (otherwise it will be feedback!)
can anyone with a left hand drive GPA please tell me if their brake fluid tank is where it shows on page 166 of the owners manual?

The CDA instructions show (very rough) step by step pics. I didnt notice untill I came across this but in the pic where the airbox is removed it looks like they removed the brake fluid tank. Then on the last pic with the CDA all in place, still no tank there! - why, coz the kit wont fit with the tank where it is on the UK GPA's!!!!  >:(
why do they have to move stupid things like this!?. At first I was really angry with BMC thinking that they removed this tank and failed to even mention it, however after looking at the manual I think the italian (lhd) cars must have the brake fluid tank on the other side of the engine.
anyway, i HAVE JUST managed to fit the kit after cutting my hands to bits and bending stuff to its limits!
Im going to send BMC an e-mail about this.
so if your thinking of getting one, wait till this is sorted out first!

Do BMC make any direct claims about its suitability for RHD markets?

This is a shot of the LHD engine bay, in case it helps.

yeah, just e-mailed that to them and highlighted where the tank is on our cars. They knew this was going on a rhd car. Ill see what they reply. Im hoping they can adapt this product for me.

just been out in it now.
no increase in woosshh noise from wastegate  :(
car is louder than before (but not too loud, id say just right)  :)
you can clearly hear the 'sucking' noise (again not too loud)  :)
throttle response is much better (id actually say the best increase in speed 'feeling' and acceleration of any induction kit iv'e ever used)  :)
as a product I think its amazing but if your thinking of getting one, wait till they sort out the fitting problem (ill keep you all informed on that)  :)
only other thing was that the writing was upside down so I had to take the thing apart and put it back together the other was round to get the writing on the box the right way up

oh, and as for guide, gf had her camera with her today and my phone camera is knackered so there isnt any! I can easily talk anyone through it though.

Changing the backbox and then the rest of the exhaust system (cat back - flexy and intermediate pipe) made a real difference to the volume of the air coming in through the induction system. Changing the filter on added to this volume slightly. Only occasionally do I hear the whooshing noise.

    yeah i know.
Im still in the debate on deciding if I want a 2nd car again or to spend on the punto.
I will be fitting the forge intercooler soon. Im going to look for a better route for the induction hose to take when the bumper is off.
how much is the full exhaust system you have mick?

It's around £590 plus postage now. It cost £140 for the dealer to fit it as it was fitted in two stages - back box then the rest. £70 each time.

just a quick update. BMC have now changed their website to say that the induction kit is not compatible with RHD cars. They also are not planning to make one that does fit.

I have not given up on this and am being sent the carbon box for the clio 197. it is 1inch smaller than the GPA one and I think will work.
Ill keep you informed on this.
I also found out something interesting while at the dealership yesterday. The intake (that comes in from the front just under the bootlid) is removed on the SS model. This will give me a little more room to play with and a chance to better channel the air intake....... Ill see how it goes!

    GSR kit tbh ;)

On a standard Tjet the exhaust is very restrictive. Mine made 150bhp after a map and induction with standard exhaust and my mates made 160bhp and 200lb ft of torque with map, induction and free-er flowing exhaust so it is definately worth changing.
