Title: Bonalume closed blowoff valve

I was in Graz (Austria) yesterday and had my oil and oil filter replaced at the local Abarth dealer there. I talked to the guy that owns the workshop and he mentioned me Bonalumes closed (that that doesn't make sounds :D) blowoff valve, that is suposed to increase the torque by up to 20 Nm. Is anyone kind enough to explain me how that works?
Afaik, the blowoff valve is only used for exhaust of the excess compressed air and frankly, cannot see how that would increase the power of the car by that margin (20 Nm is quite a bit).

doesnt it stop the excess air slowing the turbo vanes back down as the throttlle butterfly closes?

The way I understand, the valve is conected to the plastic hose (the one fixed on the engine cover) in to transfer that excess air to the turbine in order to keep it spooling. This way, the turbine doesn't start spinning from zero and thus, the lag is decreased. Other theory (which sounds more believable) is that excess air must not be left out on the open (I know some countries enviromental laws forbid that - Austria for ex.) so they connected the valve to the passage that leads back to turbine.

I wonder what that orange box does  :)

but isnt that just what the standard bypass valve does anyway, lets the excess pressure back into the turbo inlet?

Yeah, and the more I think of it, the less I understand how someone could actual "gain" from this Bonalume thingy ;)

Or maybe a magnet that lines the fuel molecules up making them burn more efficiently?
Or even it's a supercharger running on snake oil?

You're just being cynical.

It's none of those. It actually extracts energy from ley lines.

someones posted a link to this bonalume thingy before, on a thread about dump valves, will have a look now.

The only way a recirc/dump valve will increase performance is by keeping the turbo spooled up therefor reducing lag. It wont increase torque.
