Can Esseesse components be ordered separately?
« on: November 06, 2008, 02:42:27 pm »
Probably one for John and Chunky, but can any of the Esseesse components be ordered separately?

Say, for instance, a customer just wants the exhaust upgrade.

(because they're a tart and want it to sound better but don't want aftermarket fitment issues or warranty hassles)  ;D

Apparently the EsseEsse exhaust upgrade is just a backbox.

Full systems are available elsewhere, Ragazzon being an example.I've ordered the backbox and intend ordering the rest after Christmas.

I've decided against the EsseEsse kit. Apart from any other reason, I don't want the supplied tyres and would prefer to stick to 17" wheels.

Can anyone confirm that the Esse Esse exhaust is just the back box? Theres a guy selling barely used pieces separately (from Italy) and I might be interested in buying it...

All parts available in the Esse Esse Kit are available through Abarth dealer parts departments. I haven't worked the figures out myself, but we were told in Turin, that if you ordered all the parts from the Esse Esse kit separately, it would work out about 60% more expensive.

yeah its a slightly wider bore, seemed slightly larger tailpipes, makes a dignified burble with the BMC air filter in too.

the other exhaust components changed are the manifold so the garrett will fit, and the cat section.

The guy I was interested buying the exhaust from confirmed, that the SS only has the back part of exhaust different? How come? So there IS also a different manifold and cat section?

    Thnx

    yeah definitely different.

the manifold gasket is also the heatshield backing for the new turbo.

the manifold is different so the garrett will fit, and from memory had more slots cut in it to stop it cracking between branches.

the cat is close coupled and joins directly to the new turbo. the flange is completely different to the cat that fits the IMI and reminds me of the way the coupe 20v turbo front pipe is coupled to the turbo, rather than a bolt-on unit.

So, would keeping the old IHI and putting on the SS exhaust make any sense at all?

    Thank you!

you may get a few bhp and a different exhaust note, but its not going to be anything earth shakingly different IMO.

Personally, I'm not bothered about power gains, but I would like it to sound like an Italian car should.

John501, any chance I could entice you into asking your parts guy to dig out part numbers and prices for the back box and BMC air filter?

Chunky, I assume there's no problem fitting the Esseesse back box to the existing system?

no problems, the new backbox comes with a joiner piece included so you just cut the existing backbox and fit the new.

    Hi Chunky

You say you need to cut the back box? Is the system in one piece then?

I haven't been under the car properly yet.

    hiya.

the rear silencer is part of the centre exhaust section, i cant remember if there is a flange just after the flexi joint or it continues all the way to the close-coupled cat though.

its the same sort of set-up as a mk2 punto, its all one-piece from pretty much the engine bay of the car upto and including the rear silencer and then you cut the centre/rear section to fit a new backbox.

not sure why they do it that way, it looks as though the exhaust system is put on before the rear axle is fitted.
