G-Tech exhaust....too loud inside??
« on: August 10, 2009, 10:49:22 pm »

Hi all

I have just fitted the G-Tech exhaust system to my AGP and am quite, no very, disappointed.

It looks spot on and sounds ok outside but the noise inside the cabin is unbearable especially when cruising between 60 and 80 (my most common speed) and much worse when under load. A really deep, boomy, bass headache causing noise!

A half hour motorway journey today was about as much as I can bare, so much so it's gotta come off.

I know a few of you have this system and just wondered how you found it?? If no-one else has this problem then there must be a fault with my system/silencer.  If they're all the same then i'll have to try a different system.  Does anyone have the Ragazzon system, if so whats the cabin noise like with that system?

I'd really appreciate any feedback from other owners with non standard systems.....THANKS  :thumb:

I have a custom exhaust which is basically just removed back silencer and makes a nice gargling sound on idle. On load, it does sound louder than before but its only with speeds over 130 km/h that I find it too loud (to much "bass like" sound) . So far I'm very happy with it. Here's a video:

I've had a gtech on mine for several months now. I was chatting to nevs-gpa at harewoood as he was thinking of fitting one. He was worried about how bass'ie it would sound inside because of no mid box the he system. I dont notice it's loud if im 'cruising' at them speeds. However, it is loud if you are to suddenly put your foot on the gas. A very deep bass note. It's also the same if you are to lift your foot off the throttle. You get the loud base note then. I find it loudest/ perhaps a bit annoying at 30mph. For me it's when revs are between 2.5-3k. Any other rev range and the exhaust is fine.

When i first got it fitted i did feel a bit like you do. Put it down to me just listening to it too much. I didn't tell people i had fitted it and no one commented in the cabin on it being too loud. So i asume i was just imaganing to be worst then it is. My gf would have been the first to moan if something was too loud.

I wouldn't want to drive on a motorway with no music on, it would be annoying. But with music on (not even loud) then i don't have any problems. When you hit them country roads it makes me smile too much. Change gear going under a fly over to hear a large, echoeing pop makes me smile so much. The longer and more i drive with the exhaust the more i love it  :thumb:

Can't be that loud cruising at 'speed' or we wouldn't have made such good time back from Yorkshire  ;)

I have a Ragazzon system which I compared to Chris' (D&G) at Stanford. I have the cat back system with no intermediate silencer.

I didn't feel that the GTech system was particularly loud and, at low revs and throttle, the Ragazzon is probably louder and bassier.

When you floor it the Ragazzon note turns into a loud rasp that drowns the bass note. It sounds like intake roar. Old Boy described it as sounding like a loud air leak but that was with the back seat down. You do get much more intake roar anyway with the Ragazzon system. I don't know what it sounds like under load from the outside, no one else has driven my car.

I have to say I prefer my system to the GTech one, but then I would, I bought it.

I'll try to do a recording this lunch time.

Well, the recording failed miserably. The road/tyre/wind roar overwhelmed the recorder.

Has anyone got a Nagra they'd care to lend out?

When i'm 'blipping' round the lanes the G-Tech system sounds great and if thats all I did I would be well happy..........BUT.......... I plod up and down the motorway quite a lot and I find the booming noise is at it's worst between 60 and 80, especially with the windows up.  If you only use the car for short blasts then you'll probably love it.  Let us know how you find it.......
