"Hising" sound from turbo
« on: June 26, 2009, 11:18:50 pm »
Hey guys,

I noticed that my car sounds like whistleing or hissing (can't really tell, sometimes it sounds like flow of air, sometimes it kind of "sings" / "screams" - not loud though, but fairly noticeable) when accelerating. I guess its the turbine? And it only happens when accelerating harder but with revs still low. For example - 4th gear, 70 km/h, when I press the pedal, I hear that sound. When the engine gets higher in the rpms, the sound disappears even when literarly flooring it. Now, I've noticed this sound months ago but it didn't really bug me - now, however, I fear its a bit louder than before.

So, is this normal or is there something wrong with the turbo? Does anyone else notice the same? Oh, btw, I allways make sure the engine gets warm before putting it under any kind of pressure!

Thanx!

F

    Hey,

I have a Fiat punto at the moment whilst my Abarth is being built but I know the sound you mean, I get it in my car too.

It is like a 'whooshing' air kind of sound when you accelerate?

I don't think it's a problem but I do find it a bit weird but I just thought it was just the engine.....

I get it to Gofra, i find it's also louder on warmer days. During the winter i couldn't hear it. Now when it's a pretty hot day you can hear it. Just the turbo winding up

yeah, mine does the "hush" sound too, but it's more noticeable with gasoline 98 RON. (dunno why)
