2nd Service cost
« on: August 19, 2010, 12:04:59 pm »
Just booked mine in at Wessex Gloucester.  They have told me that it will cost £455.  Can anyone tell me if this is the normal sort of price it seems rather expensive?

Thanks

Well that price seems to be in the region of what some others have paid at Abarth garages.
If they say that price when I come around to my second service I will walk out and get it done elsewhere for alot cheaper

I've done nearly 15000 miles.  I bought the car in April 09 but it was registered in Jan 09 and used as a demo.

    That's very expensive!!!

£245 plus vat for the 18k service is what other Abarth garages are charging.

They will try to add injection system clean plus air con anti bacterial treatment but IMHO these are not required at all.

Even that is expensive in my book.  Oil, filter (~£50) and plugs (~£50) plus labour for other checks and £200 all in would be a more reasonable charge.  It's not as though any belts are changed.

If the car was registered in Jan 09 and the recorded mileage is less than 36000 it is not due for its 2nd service yet.

The book states (and Abarth UK have confirmed to me) that services are due every 18000 miles from the date of registration. If you do less than 10k pa and the journeys are mainly short  a 'low-mileage' service is advised every year.

The 18k services must be done at the 18k intervals regardless of any other services otherwise the warranty is void.

Every two years from the date of registration and separate from other services, the oil and filter must be changed as well as the brake fluid.

This applies to both the boggo GPA and SS.

Additionally, the SS should have an oil and filter change every 6000 miles.

I paid approx £280 inc vat for my 18k service at Autoworld.

I have been quoted £136 inc vat for an oil and filter change plus brake fluid change.

I dont have the service booklet with me but I know it had a service whilst it was still a demo.  So this would have been over 16 months ago when the car had done less than 2000 miles.  I have not had it serviced since.  I spoke to Abarth and they said I should get it serviced hence I booked it in.  I am unlikely to hit 18k before it is two years old.

You should have oil changes (I think non-SS is every 9k but could be wrong) but only service at 18k.  Mine's 2 years old and only just getting to 18k, so having it's first service.

Just spoke to Wessex again and they are now quoting £316 including vat.  They had booked me in for the 36k service because I told them the car had been serviced before.

I was also told that the car should be serviced every 18k or every year which ever comes first.

Ask them to show you where it says that in the book.

The second year service for mine came to a grand total of £731, roughly £430 for the service and the rest being labour to fit new pads, discs and brake hoses all round which I supplied. It also took them two days to do it.

Ouch!  £300 for discs, pads and lines?  Surely that's no more than a 2-3 hour job...?

The first service was a similar situation, that time I got the Sabelts fitted after having been told it would take about half an hour for each seat. That ended up being two days also.
