Loud brakes with anti -squeal shims
« on: March 23, 2011, 10:03:32 am »
Hi guys,

I have a np gpa and when I bought the car the brakes were squealing allot, so I had the anti -squeal shims fitted under warranty. I have now down 17k and they have started squealing very loudly again and I wondered where i stand with this?

Do i take it back and ask for some more to be fitted? or do they have a limited life?

Has anyone else had them fitted to find that later down the line the breaks start squealing again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tom

I think it is partly down to the pad material used by Abarth, the brakes on mine squealled from new. The solution I stumbled upon was when I got the drilled esseesse discs fitted I replaced the pads at the same time with standard spec Ferodo items since then they have not squealled once.

    Hi,

Petch's (bless 'em) replaced mine twice but teh problem is still teh same.  They were up for replacing them again (which I couldn't be bothered with) but I'm just waiting for 3 years to run out and then switching from "Abarth" pads to another (probably softer) pad which should, as noted with teh ferodo, solve teh problem. John.

If they are just replacing like with like they will keep squealing (eventually).

The  brake pads don't wear off.  Which is a good thing in one way, and a bad thing in that they make the discs lipped which makes the brakes squeak. At least that's what multiple garages told me (Thames Fiat and a garage in Germany as my brakes started squeaking on the Autobahn at 130 mph). Now that I know what it is, I don't give a damn.  Had pads and discs replaced last year when doing 36000 mile service and if the brakes start squeaking again I will tip them and then they shut up.

urm, I've been through a set of front pads by 10K....

when I swapped pads I also replaced the disks as they were slightly lipped.

Now on 19K and needing to replace again soon, Think im going to get DS2500;s.
