New Gear change cables
« on: August 03, 2022, 10:59:32 am »
Hi all, newbie here.
Just bought car last week.
First question. I have gear change that does not spring in line to 3-4 centre line.
Seen another guy asking for advice but he did not get any responses.
My mechanic says needs new cables.. OK so far.
Looked for Punto cables, six speed box, 50- 70 odd euros.
Cables for Abarth …….. 350€ !!
Is there actually any difference in gear change cables for a 6 speed Grande Punto box?
Obviously any info from yee wise men would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hi again, update. Quote for two cables from Abarth is nearly 500€.
I realise I only require one of the cables which is necessary for the lateral spring loaded movement right to left.
I cannot get the information of which of the two cables I need.
Reference numbers are 55230836 and 55230837.
Does anyone know which of these cables is the correct one for lateral movement in gear change?
    Cheers

Hi, the lower of the 2 part numbers is described as left cable, other as right cable. Im guessing that if you lift gearstick gaiter/centre console area then hopefully you'll see the pair of cables and view left/right from above to determine.

Hi, thanks for reply. Yeah, I managed to find cables down to 270€ for both. Seems anything with Abarth next to it takes a price hike. Hard to find anyone who knows if cables for ordinary Grande Punto six speed box are the same. Don’t mind paying extra if the part warrants it.

If this was me in your situation id buy the std 6spd cables and compare with whats fitted. might only be an extra heat protectant sheath for turbo engined applications? Same part numbers listed for alfa mito so worth trying

Hi, again. Many thanks for that input. At least it’s a reason why there is such a price hike. I’ll let you know how I get on. Had another slight glitch. Closing the driver’s door window. There was a bang and window dropped into door. I did investigate and seems cable has come off the pulley. Does anyone know if it’s worth trying to repair or do I just get a new window regulator?

If it's the same as Panda, then there's a plastic block that breaks.

Remove the door card and it will be obvious :thumb:

Cheers, thanks for info. Yeah, took door card off and end of cable had broken. New regulator was simplest and now all good.
