Got a whole family of dead flies on the front of my car, definitely needs a wash, but I don't really have the equipment at home to do so. Little bit nervous about taking my not-quite-so-shiny new car into one of the automatic car washes though.

Wondered if anyone has had any good or bad experience with automatic car washes? E.g. Any damage or areas they fail to clean on a GPA, or brands that do a particularly good job.

I do have a local hand car wash, but thats always seemed a little bit odd to me. That and I want to get it cleaned somewhere near High Wycombe as I'm visiting a friend there who has a good camera to take some shots of my car. Want it to look its best. ;D

I've done a quick search of the forums, only turned up some advice about avoiding pressure washing the red stripe. Anyone got any further advice?

    Yes 2 buckets and a mitt sounds good followed by a wet then dry micro-fibre cloth-looks great!.
    DO NOT put your stripes in the same street as a jet wash,a definite no no

    Car wash :( Would you use a sweeping brush to clean your car? If not then dont use a car wash as this is essentially what they are. Lots of bristles that spin round quickly and damage your paint.

    I think the best way to keep your car in A1 condition is to use the method recomended to me by John501. :whistle:.........ask the nice people in vehicle preperation to do it for you ;D

    Not everyone has their own PDI department though ;D

    Za, It's worth investing in some car washing kit. Halfords have 3 for 2 on at the moment so it doesn't work out too expensive.

    I put mine through the car wash.

    Its ok, doesn't clean the door sills though, mostly because they aren't outside the car. Other than that, its fine. I go to BP, and pay half price on tues, and collect their buy two and get the third free vouchers at the same time.

    Think I will take it to the local hand car wash at my friends place this time (its aparently pretty good) just to get some photos before its taken to be repaired for a week. Will look to see if they use sponges or not >.>

    But I will also invest in some of my own kit too, no point leaving it to some numpty at a disused petrol station every time :P

    went to a hand car wash once, never again, only way to do it properly is to do it yourself.. no one else cares about scratches, or even getting it clean

    Noooo thank you. Would prefer it to be dirty when i pick the car up new or from a service. Always tell them not to clean it after warrenty work or a service.
