Climate control fan fault.
« on: August 22, 2015, 09:33:30 pm »
Hi, noticed today that the fan on my climate control had stopped working all- together.
So after pulling the fan out and checking the connections I found that one connector in particular is quite badly heat damaged and is the cause of my intermittent connection.
It plugs in to the bottom of the fan assembly and sits right next to the black connector in the picture.
The black one could probably do with replacing as well to be honest but the grey one is the worst and part of the grey housing has crumbled away.

I have had a look at previous threads and they all seem to mention a different connector melting.
So my question is does anyone know where I can get these connector types so I can just splice and attach the new connector???

Have you tried a Fiat dealer for the parts?

Or try one of these to replace both male and female connectors:-

I will try a Fiat dealer but from what I've read already Fiat will try and sell me the whole loom which isn't cheap.
Those connectors wont work unfortunately as the melted connector plugs into a receptacle on the fan housing that is moulded into it.
    Thanks for the suggestion though.

    Really £113.
I hope I don't have to go down that route. I would happy to just get some connectors and use some bullet crimps or similar to attach to the existing wire.
Might ring a few breakers see if I have any joy.
Would be great if someone had some experience of what these connector types are called and where they can be sourced.

Any chance of removing 'the receptacle' and soldering wires direct to the housing?

Hi, yeah I might actually do this if I have no joy finding the actual connector.
I noticed it looks inside the housing each connector has 2 5-6mm spade terminals so I could either soler to them or get some shrouded spade receptacles.

Seems like others have had this issue. Unfortunately it is discussed on Italian sites.
Attached a couple of pictures to help if anyone has any experience with this.
Spoken to Vauxhall as it is a common part as Fiat would only sell the whole loom.Waiting for a response.
Spoke to a couple of breakers no Joy.
Seems only cars fitted with this Electronic heater motor resistor have these connectors.

    Now I see :thumb:

I suggest cut off the white connector.
Fit new separate spade connectors with insulation, both crimped and soldered, on to the 2 prepared wires.

Use good quality terminals with separate insulation not the pre-insulated (red/blue/yellow) type.
