Leather vs. standard seats
« on: October 28, 2008, 06:08:07 pm »
I really like the look of my standard seats.  The leather seats are great, but there's something a little more 'retro' about the standard seats that appealed to me when I placed my order.

However, what I've learnt since then is that they're a complete fluff magnet.

The suede/Alcantara-style parts are always absolutely covered with fluff picked up from people's clothes.

So, if you've got OCD or some kind of aversion to hoovering, I'd recommend the leather.  ;)

What do you guys think?

I've got both, obviously not on the same car, and i've got to say, the leather is great but is BL**DY cold first thing in the morning. I can't say i've got a preference though.
I think the quality of the leather is the best i've seen come out of Turin to date, but the alcantara is a really nice touch.
Too close to call in my opinion.

    what? Me biased?

I'd always fancied Alcantara seats but I was worried about the quality of the ribbed inserts. I was also worried about marking the leather seats.

I'd bought some leather seats for my Barchetta but sold them after one trip to the south of France. Leave them in the sun too long and burn your legs when you sit down. Plus they were as slippery as hell.

The leather in the AGP seems to be pretty good quality and this morning it was 2.5C outside and the seats weren't too cold. They're not slippery either.

As for marking, we'll see how that goes, but there's a guy in Chesterfield who's pretty good at restoring leather seats at reasonable prices. I've got some Meguiars leather cleaner and conditioner but haven't used it yet.

Interesting to hear about the fluff on the Alcantara, I never thought of that.

They're not like any alcantara I've ever had.  I think they're made from "alcantara style" material, though I must say they are very nice, but the ribs probably will wear quite quickly.

The standard seats are very retro. Great if you like that but in my opinion they ruined the inside of the car. Leather for me  ;D
