Title: Lowering drivers seat?
Post by: will-w on February 13, 2011, 11:25:27 am
Hi all

Has anyone investigated whether it is possible to lower the drivers seat by another inch or two?

I'm not a huge guy (6' 1", 14 stone) but I regularly find the top of my hair brushing against the roof lining of my SS.

Cheers
Will

I assume you've already used the seat height adjustment lever?

I'm slightly taller and never had this problem with mine, I didn't even have the seat on it's lowest setting. I'm wondering if the height adjuster might be stuck and is not on it's lowest setting?

Ask the GTT guys to look into it. Dont see a reason why it cant be done as sub is in the boot on AGP.
More difficult on 500 though.

Most certainly have. It lowers by about an inch, maybe two from it's highest position but even at it's lowest there's still only an inch clearance between my head and the headlining

haha, well I'm not as big as I used to be anyway!  I used to be 16 stone...  and I've still got a 17.5/18" neck ;)

Well I've only got a 31" inside leg so most of my height is in my upper body, I've got a big neck too which doesn't help!

I never had any problems in my Grande Punto Sporting - then again I didn't have the SkyDome roof in the Sporting and I do in the SS!

Ask the GTT guys to look into it. Dont see a reason why it cant be done as sub is in the boot on AGP.
More difficult on 500 though.

It's going into them soon so they can have a play with a few other bits so will ask them to have a look while they've got it! :)

I would have thought anything relating too the seat fitment would need type approval as its an essential safety feature  ???

So im guessing it would cost quite a lot  :thumbd:

You'd think that but I know loads of people in the past to get custom runners made to fit seats into their cars..  I guess it would be something you're suppose to do but doubt many do.

As long as I fully trust the workmanship and strength then I'd be ok with it :)

Im a biggy and do find that the seat doesn't seem to sink in enough to get totally comfortable. I found the answer though - Sabelt's  ;D

That is most certainly the answer..  Maybe a rather expensive one, but it is the best answer! :D

Have you not bothered to read the thread so far?  It's as far down as it goes!

The SkyDome must lower the roof lining by quite a large amount as head clearance is a lot less

Yes. I test drove one with a skydome and didn't get one with that option for that sole reason  :-[

The skydome does lower the roof lining by about 2 inches.

no i didnt read it. The questions in the topic title so i took it from there. problem with that?

to me though it seems kinda dum.... if i test drove a car and my head hit the roof id not buy the car...... or is that just me using my brain?

I was just going to apologise about the way I had written that reply but I don't think I'll bother.

I have a good inch or so of clearance, I just want to lower the seat a; to give me more room and b; to get a better, lower driving position.

As it is at the moment the driving position was actually lower in my Grande Punto Sporting..

You've just answered your own question! Back to the GPS!

I find it just seems to be the thickness of the seats. Try Sabelts and you find u sink in and sit alot lower.

Don't know I just remember trying the Sablet's in an AGP and you just seemed to move into the seat space more thus giving more room or at least thinking you have  ;D
